'Innovation' and 'Invention' are two timeless concepts. In every new century, every new generation there comes a whole new series of things that transform the ordinary way of life.

Taking a round about view of the present century, I am baffled almost everyday at the kind of inventions that keep happening and we are not even aware of them. And yet we take pride in living the "Digital Age". Well this is not to annul the usefulness of the Internet and its props in any way, but just the longing of a shamanic soul who loves to explore everything creative under the sun.

So here I was on a routine exploration sortie and was stuck by some absolutely useful yet simple products that I felt all of us should know.

Teen Wonders At ISEF 2013

Posted: 5/24/2013
In the just concluded Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2013 at Phoenix, the melee of quality scientific displays by young scientific minds is surely set to baffle most professionals.

The event is a week-long fair hosted by Intel Corporation and Society for Science and the Public every year. The turnout at the world's largest science fair was 1600 high school finalists from various countries, competing for a price money of $4 million.

Each year almost 7 million high school students participate in the event by working on original research projects that are innovative with problem solving capacity. This truly vindicates Intel's mission statement- "Inspiring the future" really.

The elite panel of judges carefully scrutinize the relevance and workability of submitted research projects to award prize money. The best of the best honor gets the Gordon E. Moore Award with USD 75,000, grabbed by Ionut Alexandru Budisteanu of Romania this year. His award winning project was based on the using of artificial intelligence for creating low-cost self driven cars that prevent the rate of accidents.

"Digital Darwinism" sure sounds like a heavyweight term.

As apparent as it is this term has its origins in Charles Darwin's social theory. He famously wrote in his seminal work the Origin of Species "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change".

In one of our earlier posts weighing the pros and cons of technology we left our readers to decide how not to become technological slaves. As a follow up, Digital Darwinism seems an appropriate topic to discuss.

What do we understand really by this word?

The mismatch between the pace of technological change and the co-related ability of corporate organizations to cope with changes, paraphrases the meaning suitably.

The waiting game is finally over.

Apple Inc, after much hassles finally delivered its newest baby: iTunes 11, the latest version of its most popular music software.

Ahhhhh!! no need to hum “Wake me up when September ends” any more.

According to a company spokesman, the apparent launch delays (October deadline) were a conscious move to “take a little extra time to get it right”. Well with Steve Jobs out of the picture now, Apple’s tentative steps to get it act right seems fair.

Very recently we'd shared an innovative keyboard created by Logitech: K310; a keyboard that can be washed and dried.

Today we would like to share another interesting keyboard design which is quite opposite of Logitech's K310. Although this is an age and time of tiny tablets and touch screens, but looking at this wooden keyboard certainly makes you wanna have one.

French design company Orée has recently launched a wooden keyboard which is made entirely from a single piece of maple or walnut; each and every piece is handcrafted.

We've already come across quite a few innovative ideas and designs for charging devices; Everpurse being a recent example. It's quite a nifty little purse that wirelessly charges your phone by simply placing it in the purse pocket. After Everpurse, we realized that it will take one hell of an innovation to impress us again. So, here we are featuring another incredible concept and design that uses solar energy for charging your device.

Electree, by French designer Vivien Muller is an eye-catching design of a bonsai that uses solar power to charge your device. Electree's 27 solar panels (the branches) charges its 13,500mAH battery and needs 36 hours of sunshine to fully charge its battery.

There are two types of start-up entrepreneurs: impulsive and calculative.

Both kinds have equal chances of becoming a success, perhaps that is the reason why many aspiring entrepreneurs get skeptical about making their idea a reality. There is no way of knowing if the idea will work or not; it's all about a leap of faith.

While compiling these inspiring quotations by successful entrepreneurs talking about start-ups, I realized that everyone has different opinions and ideas, but they have one common denominator: innovation.

If you are someone who is in a position where these guys were couple of years ago, then check out these inspiring words that come from experience.

The gravity stool is a very ingenious product which is formed out of the interaction of gravity and magnetism, and is the brainchild of designer Jólan van der Wiel, who is based in the Netherlands.

The concept is very simple - a mixture of a quick drying liquid plastic is mixed with magnetic particles and placed in a bowl. Strong set of opposing magnets are suspended around this mixture and slowly the bowl is lowered or the magnets are lifted. This causes the magnetic particles in the liquid  to be drawn towards the magnets thus forming the legs of the stool. This process continues till the required length of the legs is reached. The mixture is then allowed to dry for about half an hour. The liquid in the bowl becomes the top surface of the stool on hardening.

Jólan was awarded the 1st Prize Interior Innovation Award for Young Talent for creating these stools. He terms this process of creation as "having a dialogue with natural phenomenon". He likes the fact that in this series of stools, each and every piece is unique and that it spurs an urge to fantasize, as to what other forms can be created using such tools.

I realize that the title of this post is somewhat ambiguous, but I feel that titles like "How to Utilize Good Content" (with maybe "content strategy" or "marketing" thrown in for good measure) scare off more people than it brings in. Hopefully you haven't all stopped reading now. Fact of the matter is, content strategy and marketing is important, and you have more control over it now on the internet than anyone would have ever though possible 20 years ago. I just hope to deliver you some useful information that you can apply in a more practical setting to your own websites or online reputation.

I always used to fantasize about not having to to use my hands to play games; I could just slip inside my blanket and some magical power could do the rest. The game developer of EyeAsteroids, Fredrik Lindh, has actually made this fantasy a reality. Now using our eyes as game controller, we can save the earth.

"Using your eyes to direct attention is fundamental in human interaction. Using your eyes to interact with games, on the other hand, is completely new. With gaze interaction, the game understands your gaze the same way people around you do, taking immersion and game intensity to a new level", quotes the website.

It must be quite an experience to use only your eyes and not the hands at all. Well, see the video below and see this guy experiencing what I and all of us really want to:

Have a close look at the model on the left, can you see a helmet on her?

She's not wearing just a helmet, she is wearing 'the' helmet that comes with an airbag, a helmet that inflates on collision to protect a cyclist from severe injuries. An airbag that inflates in 0.1 seconds and gets triggered when its sensors register an abnormal action while a bike is being ridden. An airbag with a small helium gas cylinder that comes with an on and off functionality, a helmet that even has a USB connection built into it. And get this...its has a 'black box' in it that records 10 seconds of data just before an accident...and guess what?

You still can't figure out where the freaking helmet is?

That's the beauty of it! Notice a collar around her neck? It's not a fashion accessory, it is an incredibly innovative safety gear for bikers that can protect them from possibilities of suffering fatal injuries.

It is called Hövding (Chieftain), a clever innovation by two industrial design students from Sweden.
