What is the relationship between light and dark spaces?

I know the question ain't that impressive (or totally stupid) but if you know the answer you are housing a creative soul. Anyways, we all are pretty evident of the fact that both light and dark spaces can't stay in one place, when light comes, no space stays dark but one of French photographer Nicolas Rivals' photography series says something else.

Using a torch and a camera with long exposure Rivals has literally painted dark spaces with light, in his Light Rorschach series. These photographs look very similar to a face.

Singapore-based photographer Fong Qi Wei, when was working on his 'Exploded Flowers' series discovered that every component of a flower is a specimen of the perfect work that Mother Nature does and with this thought in his mind he created the 'Floral Painting' series.

In this series Wei has used every component of a flower to create playful shapes like a flower, a pink flamingo and more. For this series he used flowers like roses, hydrangeas, lilies, aster, and chrysanthemums.

According to the him, "Whilst doing my Exploded Flowers series, it occurred to me that petals and individual components of flowers are literally individual brush-strokes of nature. So I decided to take that idea and expand it to create a floral painting, so to speak. I was also partly inspired by the excellent website Everything Is A Remix."

Meet Wayne Martin Belger who is an Arizona-based artist and machinist who has a penchant for creating unique pinhole cameras. His cameras are not showpieces but are in fact fully-functional and can take excellent photographs. Wayne does everything from the creative process of constructing the camera to taking pictures.

Wondering how he does that?

Wayne, first conceptualizes how he want the photo of the subject to look and then starts with the process of constructing the pinhole camera. He uses random things like skulls, metal, wood, human blood and anything and everything under the sun related to the subject all designed to be the sacred bridge of a communion offering between myself and the subject.

His choice of subject is both unique and hard-hitting and range from Californian body builders dealing with AIDS to mothers during childbirth. He uses 4x5 film and normal light and spends 10-90 seconds, anywhere with his pinhole camera to capture a single shot for a particular photography series. With no lens between the camera and the subject the image comes out perfectly.

One of his recent works caught our attention, known as Deep Black. In this series, Courti has captured simple subjects against black backdrops. There is no particular theme behind this incredible project as some of the images appear normal and playful but some might hit you both emotionally and mentally. When one's life is at stake, with no home or hearth for comfort, what do you suppose such people most cling to? What thoughts ail them? Do they grab moneybags or keepsakes before they flee for safety?

These were the aching question that took me by shock as I looked through Brian Sokol's photographic series on Refugees. Before we get started, just curb that sympathy shot, because these people need much more than bland sympathetic sighs and tears. These are people who continue to live half-lives, torn amidst political squabbles that concerns them not. That's the whole logic of Displacement - its a quagmire that affects people peripheral to the cause of conflict.
