When it comes to New Year's resolutions, all of us resolve to do something or the other at the start of every year. If you ask me New Year's resolutions are more about doing things to change oneself and doing our best to follow them. If this year, for say, my New Year's resolution is to start a new blog then just not starting a new blog would fulfill it, I need to post regularly and do everything that I do on this blog.
Bottomline - New Year's resolutions are more of commitments so if you resolve to do something this year, you ought to fulfill it but that's the challenge here, half of us forget them half way.
As an eCommerce merchant, if you resolve to do something then it has to be concrete and realistic; something that you can actually fulfill like launching a mobile-friendly website or going global. And if as an eCommerce merchant you haven't taken any New Year's resolutions then here are a few things that you can resolve to do this year.
Happy reading!
1. Go mobile
If your website is still not mobile-friendly then this year resolve to go mobile. According to SuperMonitoring.com, "50% of the average global mobile web users now use mobile as either their primary or exclusive means of going online" and if that was easy to digest then read this - "80% of mobile device owners use mobile to enhance their shopping experience."
This year you can expect an increase in the number of shoppers who shop through their mobile devices so in case your website takes time to load on the mobile devices or your website's visitors face trouble navigating through your website then it's high time to go mobile.
2. Go tight on online security
No website is hack proof and in the year 2013 we saw some high-profile hacks so in order to keep your customers private information really private you need to start using security services like Trustwave and conduct security scan of your website from time to time.
3. Take social media seriously
If you ask me half of the eCommerce merchant take social media for granted, they either share updates when ever they feel like or just focus on one social media platform (Facebook in most cases).
Share updates on regular basis, at least one a day and try exploring other social media platforms as well like Pinterest, Google+ or Tumblr.
4. Remove unresponsive subscriber from your email list
I know you went heavy on the email marketing this holiday season, sending emailer to all your subscriber but do you know there are a lot of subscribe who don't even remember what you do leave alone the fact that they don't even checkout your mails and mark them as SPAM. If you think that such subscribers can't harm you then my friend you are highly mistaken. If someone is constantly marking your emails as SPAM in Google's eye this would create a bad reputation of your brand. So start this year with removing such subscribers from your email list.
5. Experiment
Time and again, I have constantly talked about experimenting; experiment with your social media strategy, marketing strategy and this time I would again ask you to experiment with things. Introduce new services, do something that you haven't done before and do everything that you think would keep your customers hooked on to your store.
These are just a few but some really important things that an eComerce merchant should make sure to resolve to doing this year.
