Today's Creative Blog is a place where you'll find something inspiring every single day. Kim loves creative projects and rather than looking for them on other sites, she decided to create a place herself where she can feature creativity and share them with the people who appreciate it.
A busy mom who also teaches fitness classes and loves to watch Oprah has created a wonderful community of creative people all over the globe through her blog; and she has been very kind to take some time out for an interview with us. Read further to learn more about our 'Blogger of the Week'.
Kim, please introduce yourself to all the E-junkies.
Hi, I'm Kim, the founder of Today's Creative Blog. I'm just a girl who likes inspiring things.
When did you start blogging?
I first started about 5 1/2 years ago with a personal blog. I started TCB 4 years ago in April.
What inspired you to start blogging? Is there anyone whom you look up to as your idol or inspiration?
When I first started blogging, there weren't as many blogs as there are now. A few that had me sucked in. Pioneer Woman of course, Becky Novacek, Sandi Kreiger, Restyled Home......usually home or craft bloggers.
Today’s Creative Blog was thought of and started all within 5 min. Tell us more about it.
I found myself craving more blogs that had creative ideas. I would search the blog roll from all my favs. I wanted a blog that would have it all right there for me. That's when I decided to start it myself. Right then, right there. No fancy templates, just a plain blue one from Blogger.
You're the proud owner of 'Today's Creative Blog'. How it feels to be so loved and admired on web?
I'm blushing. I don't feel like my blog is any more loved than the millions out there. I didn't start TCB out to "make it a business". But I'm SO lucky it's become a part time job.
You've a personal blog called 'scrap-to-my-lu'. What it is all about?
Lately, it's not about much. :) It's severely neglected. I started it out as another way to chart my life and raising my son. I used to be an avid scrapbooker and this was just another way to add to keeping memories alive for my son. So when my son is 19 and say he had a terrible childhood, I can pull out all my scrapbooks and the blog and show him otherwise. :)
How has blogging helped you in growing personally as well as professionally?
Blogging has shown me that I love to write. I've never considered myself a writer. In a venture that was started selfishly, I realize the need for others to simply be recognized. Recognizing and empowering women for what do daily only brings positive results. It's all about lifting others up. Professionally, it's brought so many opportunities to me. I never in a million years would have thought I could make this my job, that I would meet other bloggers and consider them true and real friends. It's allowed me to work with companies that make a difference. Who knew?
What is the best thing you like about blogging?
I think the best is touching people. Not physically. :) The community I have with blogging is full of amazing people. Also seeing how talented and creative they are.
On the other hand, does blogging come with any disadvantage too? If yes, what is it?
For me the disadvantage has been from setting boundaries. I receive many emails wanting me to help promote causes. Although most are all very good, I have to be very careful not to use my readers like this. Of course I want to help everyone, but that's not why my readers read my blog.
How do you promote your blog? What all you do to spread it around?
My blog is promoted naturally through my features. After I feature someone, I love it when they tell their readers about being featured. That's one way I build my audience.
Other than blogging, what are the other things that you love to do?
I love to go on vacations with my family....usually Utah, thrifting, decorating, scrapbooking, going to my sons soccer games.
What is on the cards for the future?
I've been asked to write a blog for The Creative Connection, I have plans to grow TCB into a bigger hub of inspiration and I'm thinking about throwing myself a 50th birthday party, inviting bloggers of course!
Many aspiring women bloggers would draw inspiration from you. What would you advise them? You can share a secret too (we would only publish it ;).
There are SO many wonderful blogs out there! Blogging and Social media are blazing our own path, there are very few "HOW TO" books for this industry, learning as we go. However, I think it holds true to write from your heart. Don't try to BE what you think will bring traffic. Be authentic! You've got to be YOU! It's basically the same lesson our mama's taught us.
Thanks Kim for sparing some time for a wonderful interview, we will look forward to learn about more creativity through your blog. :)
