Putting an end to all the rumors, Apple has finally launched the next generation of iPhone and yes, it has a plastic body, it's colorful and also has the rumored fingerprint scanner. However, you won't find these features in a single device but in two separate devices - the iPhone 5C and 5S. And no one knew that this was coming!
Tuesday was a big day for Apple, at its Cupertino media event Apple announced the launch of iPhone 5C and 5S and also the release of iOS 7.
Let's talk about iPhone 5C first. The back and the sides of the iPhone 5C is made up of a single piece of polycarbonate and comes in various colors like blue, green, pink, white and yellow.
Philip Schiller, the senior VP of worldwide marketing at Apple unveiled this device at the event and claimed that no one would be able to see seams, part lines or joins in the body of this device. Similar to iPhone 5 in features, this device comes with 4-inch Retina display and A6 processor. It has a 8-megapixel rare camera and a improved front camera.
Apple would start taking pre-orders for this device from September 13 and it would be available in store from September 20. On a two-year contract basis the 16 GB device will be available for $99 while the 32 GB for $199. This device would be available for sale in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, Singapore and UK.
Now coming on to iPhone 5S, the only advantage that this newly launched device has over its predecessors and in fact other smartphone brands is the fingerprint sensor and a few upgrades here and there. Following are the key features that iPhone 5S has:
1. Touch ID - One of the best features that this device has is the fingerprint sensor called the Touch ID which is embedded in the home button. This feature allows the user to unlock their iPhone by simply placing their finger on the home button.
Touch ID reads fingerprint from 360 degree so no matter at what angle you place your finger, you would be able to unlock your iPhone. The scanner also has a multiple fingerprint log-in option so that others can also use your device.
Apart from unlocking your iPhone the Touch ID allows users to purchase things from the iTunes Store, App Store and the iBooks store. In case you are worried if the scanner would upload your fingerprint to Apple's server or store it on iClouds, Apple has reassured it won't.
2. Super Fast Processor - Believe it or not but this device would run on a 64-bit chip with a A7 processor which is double the speed of iPhone 5.
Along with A7 the device would also have a co-processor M7 which would collect data from various sensors that the device has like Accelerometer, GPS, etc., at the same time it would also save your battery's life.
3. Improved Camera - Apple has improved the camera of this device by increasing the size of the image sensor so that the device can take better quality picture no matter how high or low the light is.
According to Schiller the iPhone 5S "The most forward-thinking phone we've ever created." Look wise iPhone 5S is very similar to iPhone 5 but the only difference is that it is that it's available in three color options - silver, gold and as they call it"space grey."
On a two-year contract basis this device is priced at $199.99 for 16 GB, $299 for 32 GB, and $399 for the 64 GB version. The iphone will be available in stores starting September 20.

I am VERY sad to hear they have switched from metal
to plastic! bleh!
We really appreciate your comment and thoughts. It's just the iPhone 5C that's in plastic, the iPhone 5S is still in metal. , Our understanding is that the 5C are made of polycarbonate material which is not easily destructible. On the brighter side you get a speedier and host of new features in the 5S. We are yet to pass a final judgement as we have not been able to lay our hands on them personally.
good to know that one of them is still metal. I am just anti-plastic anything and avoid buying or using it as much as possible. I always loved that iPhones were metal and glass, so it is disappointing to me that they came out with a plastic version, regardless of the guts. LOL
