We instead thought it would be cool if we could search, browse, and share products all from a single site and even measure the level of anticipation surrounding these products".

Read on to know more about Hypejar in our exclusive interview with one of it's founder, Grant Yim.

1. Hi Grant, please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hypejar was founded by Wonjun Bae, Dylan Jude, Mike Kwon and myself, Grant Yim, in Montreal, Canada. Wonjun and Dylan are software engineers with programming experience ranging from video games to web applications. Mike brings foresight into SEO strategy, community management, and content management. My experience comes from sales, business and law. All four of us share a strong interest in new products and have gotten tired of googling for information and their release dates.

2. What is Hypejar all about? Every start-up has a story, what is the story behind yours?

It's a pretty long story. I would have to direct you here: http://www.hypejar.com/about/origin. To make a long story short, We were tired of googling for information about upcoming products and always wanted to know what is coming out next. We were surprised that there was no single Internet site that did that all of that.

3. What is the process of gathering information on the products that are featured on Hypejar? Are most of the products added by your users? How do you keep track of the veracity of the products that users add into their Jar?

Hypejar is a wiki. So yes, users do add products onto the site. We also have a team that is responsible for content management. The team ensures that all information is up-to-date, reliable and useful. Another important aspect of content management is that we are fortunate enough to have many 'power' users. These users are called Moderators and have added privileges to properly monitor the quality and relevancy of the information on the site. These Moderators were hand picked by our team based on their level and quality of activity on the site.

4. Hypejar just went Beta this September, how has the journey been so far? What has been the biggest compliment that you have received so far?

The journey thus far has been awesome. Our team is totally devoted to the concept and for me personally, it is a real joy to work with such a team. It's been a roller coaster ride so far, but that is something all startups understand, including us. While we have heard some very encouraging and generous comments made about Hypejar, the biggest compliments are from seeing user interaction. There is no better compliment about our work than seeing users interact with one another and truly enjoy the site.

5. Are you planning on leveraging social networks to promote it?

Definitely. We already have a page Twitter and Facebook where we make announcements about new features and other interesting Hypejar-related news. Social networks are a great tool for traction. In fact, an Internet startup really cannot ignore it these days.

6. Does Hypejar have a revenue model?

As we're an early-stage boostrapped project, our main goal for the moment is to build the most useful product possible. Along with a useful product comes traction, which is when any discussion of revenues can be brought up.

7. What sort of activities do you like to pursue in your free time? Which of these do you find to be most de-stressing?

We are a team that has very diverse hobbies. Dylan is an avid surfer. Mike is an incredible poker player. Wonjun is big movie nut (always up-to-date on what is upcoming) and I've been hit by the golf bug. However, Hypejar has now consumed the bulk of our time.

8. If you could have one superhero (or magical) power, what would it be and why?

The power to look into the future. =)

9. What are your future plans for Hypejar? Any new feature(s)/enhancement(s) in the pipeline?

We are constantly iterating and introducing new features. Since our beta launch, we've been introducing new aspects of Hypejar on a rolling basis. The best way to keep track of them would be at blog.hypejar.com. The features introduced are designed to make the site more enjoyable and to make it a seamless user experience. For example, at the time of this writing, we just introduced Hover Hyping, which is the ability to hype up/down products directly from the frontpage by simply hovering over a product picture.

10. Top advice that you would like to share with fellow entrepreneurs? Your advice to aspiring and budding start-ups?

The biggest first step is to launch. Even if you've got many ideas of what you would like to implement, it is important to get the launch out of the way. Once launched, the importance of listening to user feedback cannot be understated.

Thank you Grant for taking out the time and doing this interview with us. We'd like to wish you and Hypejar the very best for the future.
