Pulsar Apps has recently introduced a geolocation app exclusively for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch allowing its users to share their location with a list of trusted friends and relatives.

Although there are tons of apps out there that enable you to share your location with a certain group of people, but what makes this app a little different is it works on 'reversed Facebook-logic'. Basically, Facebook allows anyone to send you a request to add them, but in Hobmob it's the user who decides who to add to his/her list of trusted friends; they call this list 'whitelist'.

Say, suppose I decide to add Robert to my whitelist, he will be able to locate me anytime through 'friends' locations' tab view. If someday I decide that I no longer want Robert to know where I am, I can simply delete him from my list.

"Hobmob is highly flexible in the precision of its privacy settings. The user can very easily add or remove a friend from his/her whitelist with the change being reflected immediately in the friend’s app." shares Hobmob's press release.

It also has a feature known as 'Shadow mode' allowing users to hide their location from everyone in their list at once. "Finally, the user has the choice to completely stop being geolocated." shares the app.

So in what situations would this app be useful?

Mostly when you plan to meet someone at a restaurant or want to know if your friend has left the house yet. So rather than calling to and fro, one can simply have a look at the app and check in real time. Of course, this could prove to be very useful for parents who would wanna know if their child has reached a destination or to ensure that their child has not been partying pass the curfew time.

"Every user gets featured anonymously as male, female or alien on the map view in real time. By harnessing its users’ data anonymously, every user has the possibility to observe other users move about in real-time." explain the makers of Hobmob.

The app is currently available for $1.99 and can be used in US English, British English and French.
