What I really liked about the blog that it offers content on a variety of topics. The next best thing is the positive waves this blog reflects. As Sarah puts it up as "ultimately, Yes and Yes is about living the life that works for you and saying 'yes' to the things that make you happy".
It is our pleasure to feature 'Yes and Yes' as 'Blog of the Week' on our blog and have Sarah for an interview with us to share a lot more about herself and her blog:
Sarah, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Hi guys! My name is Sarah Von and I'm a professional blogger, copywriter and gadabout. I'm originally from rural Minnesota, but I've spent most of the last eight years traveling and living abroad.
Tell us about your wonderful blog 'Yes and Yes'. What is it all about?
Yes and Yes is a mish mash of interviews with interesting people, how-tos, travel guides, advice, fashion, design, food and non-nauseating inspiration. Ultimately, it's about saying yes to the life that works for you - whatever form that takes.
Also: sometimes I post photos of animals in buckets.
What inspired you to start blogging? We would love to know about its inception.
I was looking for blogs that were intelligent, funny and varied - but I couldn't really find any. It seemed that most blogs were niche blogs - just fashion, just current events, just advice - and I'm interested in all those things! Since I couldn't find a blog that covered all the topics I liked, I decided to start one of my own!
With what mission you'd started your blog? And it's been more than three years since its inception..how has been your blogging journey?
It's not an exaggeration that blogging has changed my life. It's allowed me to be totally self-employed. Because of my blog, I stayed with one of the editors of Vogue India while I was in Mumbai. I spent a month writing for the Malaysian edition of CLEO magazine while I was in Kuala Lumpur. My readers helped raise money for hearing aids in India and sending a super talented Thai community organizer to English school.
According to you, what are the three essentials for a blog to be successful?
* regular posting
* engaging, well-written posts
* useful content
You've authored so many E-books. Which one is the most special to you? Tell us something about it.
I love all of them, but I'm particularly proud of The Wanderlust Workbook. It's the perfect resource for anybody who wants to do a multi-month trip but doesn't know where to start. It covers how to get a leave of absence from your job, how to save money for your trip, what to do with your car/furniture/apartment while you travel, how to deal with nervous parents or negative nay-sayers - tons of great info! And there's even a one year plan to help you get everything sorted before you go!
What are the differences between publishing a blog and an E-book? Do they compliment each other?
A blog required a lot of day-to-day up keep - responding to comments, formatting guest posts, dealing with sponsors. An ebook is something you can sit down, write, publish and let ejunkie take care of everything else! Both blogging and ebooks require a big time commitment, but in different ways.
Share your fondest memory with 'Yes and Yes'.
Probably meeting readers! When I was traveling through Australia I hosted 'blogger dinners' with other bloggers and got to meet a bunch of our shared readers. And they were all so lovely and fun and smart! It was really, really flattering that such amazing people read my blog!
What are your dreams/vision for 'Yes and Yes'?
Hmmmm, I'm really, really happy with how things have been going to Yes and Yes so far. I'm interested in partnering with some Chambers of Commerce in tourist towns that have been affected by the economy or natural disasters (like some of the towns on the Gulf Coast after the old spill). I'd love to travel to those places and show people that they're still worth visiting!
What do you like to do in your free time? Share your favorites or hobbies with us.
I travel all.the.time. I actually spent 10 months out of the last year traveling! When I'm not living out of a backpack, I like to read, cook, paw through thrift store and go on adventures with my friends.
What would you like to advise to aspiring bloggers?
Write in your own voice about things that excite you. Blogging isn't a get-rich-quick scheme (or a get-rich-at-all scheme, really) so you should do it because you enjoy it.
Sarah, thank you for making this interview happen and sharing your insights with us. We wish you all the Good Luck with your wonderful blog.
