Armed Notebook is the new sensation in the world of cool products. Besides the stylish cover, what makes it cooler is the message that it conveys:

"Here, weapons which may typically be viewed as symbols of violence are converted to tools for peace. Our creativity and knowledge expressed through words and sketches are the best means to get our points across, not through force and/or violence."

The armed notebook comes with three different covers: Grenade cover, Knife cover and Revolver Cover. All three of them have different pages inside meant for a particular use.

The designer of this awesome product is Yiweishen who is based in Taiwan. We could reach him for a small interview with us via Molla Space - a Los Angeles based design collective carrying a wide range of innovative and original products ranging from interior decorative, tableware, stationary and accessories.

Please introduce yourself to E-junkies.

Born in 1976. After obtaining the Master degree at National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, I stepped straight into the design field. It has been 11 years now. I wish to record the memorable moments of life and new discovery of inspirations through products. They are not ones that follow the latest trends or have the most glamorous packaging, but are ones that are mixed with humor, emotions, and stories that hopefully will touch people’s heart even through different times.


Tell us something about your awesome product 'Armed Notebook'. 


I think it would be the design approach. It makes what is typically flat into 3D. There is also a metal rings on each style. It adds yet another dimension to the flat notebook and adds another usage which is unique to regular notebooks. In addition, from the paper material to weight to size to graphics, every detail is carefully designed so that it creates the best balance. I think this is the difference with other notebooks in the market.























What message does it convey?

To arm yourself with creativity not violence.



























How did you come up with such a creative idea?

This is a black humor design. We often describe the skills you possess as your true weapon. In a casual conversation with a good friend one day, I was asked, “what kind of weapons (skills) do you have?”,and that question lingered in my head and inspired me to explore ideas on how to visualize this concept. I decide to pick the most recognized weaponry and to combine it with notebooks to express the metaphor. Slowly it was shaped into a 3D cover with simple clean notebooks to highlight the contrast. This is also to overturn the typical impression that weapons can only mean destruction and violence, when words and graphics of imaginations can be the best powerful defense one can own.

It has received surprisingly awesome responses from the shows, internet, and directly from end-users. Besides the concept itself, it’s also cool looking (because it’s all black with 3D images) and functional!
