They have monumental responsibilities on their shoulders: taking care of their kids, making sure that they eat well, make sure that they are doing well at school, participate in their extra-curricular activities, help them with their homework, play with them, tuck them in their beds at night, narrate a bed time story, clean the house, making sure every thing is in order for the next day and if the time permits...finding some time for their husbands.
After all of this, they have to make sure that their clients/readers are happy, their articles or orders are on time and that they are not compromising in their job in any way whatsoever. It goes without saying that time is most precious and scarce for work from home mums. Here are few tips that might help you managing your time, getting a little more organized and finding some time for yourself as well.
Firstly, it's 'Work' From Home Mom, Not 'Stay' at Home Mom.
There is a fine line between stay at home mom and work from home mom.
Keep a Pen and Paper Next to Your System
It may be a little old fashioned tip, but jotting down different stuff on a notepad and filtering out important stuff works better than any app out there. It helps a great deal in making your to-do list as well.
Get Dressed for Your Work
No girl minds dressing up. Keep some set of clothes for your working hours. This way you will be psychologically aware that your working...not just sitting at home and your family members will also get used to it as well.
Make and Follow a Schedule
Keep it practical, doable and flexible. Keep your kids in mind and find windows where you can spare time for your work without getting disturbed in any way whatsoever.
Identify Your Top 5 Distractions
I wouldn't suggest to include your kids in this, because when they need you, they need you. Period! Other than that, it could be phone calls from your girlfriends, your favorite soap opera, your favorite website or Twitter. Identify them and curb them as much as possible.
It's Very Important to Find Some Time for Yourself
A time when you are not working, not taking care of kids, your husband, house or your pets. A time when you can sit alone in the kitchen with a cup of coffee, or watch a pretty sunset, take walk in your garden or go for a small run. It hugely helps in bringing your thoughts together and increases productivity.
Keep Those Deliciously Lavish Meals for Weekends
Every mom loves to cook the best meal for their family, but if you are thinking a beautifully roasted, juicy stuffed turkey, then perhaps it is a good idea to cook it on a weekend. During the weekdays, try to cook simple, healthy yet delicious recipes...just Google it, and you'll get plenty of ideas.
The Art of Multi-Tasking
I believe that God has gifted women with the art of multi-tasking, and you can put this to good use. Say you just started doing your laundry, so while you wait, you can bring in your laptop and use this time for tweeting, reading other blogs or random browsing that can save your time when you are concentrating solely on your work. Or watch your favorite show while you work-out on your treadmill. But for all the important stuff, keep your multi-tasking instincts at bay.
Either Wake Up First Or Sleep Last
It is a good idea to either wake up before the rest of your family and go through everything that you need to accomplish during the day. This way you can also assign certain tasks to your family. Else, you can sleep the last and think about what all you accomplished during the day and what needs to be done the next day.
Keep a Timer
Other than allotting a certain period of time for different tasks, I would suggest that you should schedule time for taking a break. Moms usually forget that they are entitled to take a break and need something to remind them that they need to relax a little bit.
Make Technology Your Friend
I've come across many tech savvy moms, but have also met many work from home mums who simply log on to blogger, update their post, use their camera, check email, tweet a bit or perhaps participate in their favorite forum. But trust me, technology has a lot more to offer and can save hours in a given day. Befriend it, and you will be amazed.
There Should Be Different To-Do Lists for Work and for Domestic Chores
Mums' love to make lists, grocery lists, bills to be paid list, chores to complete list etc., but never mix them with your work-related list.
Learn to Say No
One drawback with work from home mum is that people tend to assume that you have a lot of free time. And mums usually find it difficult to say no, specially to relatives or neighbors. So have your priorities straight and learn to say no to things that you can't (at times don't want to) handle.
Keep Your Desk Tidy
I once met a mom who made sure that her kids make their bed, clean their room and clear their dishes. But I was surprised to see her work desk in a huge mess. Not only was she setting a wrong example for her kids but was also reducing her productivity due to that massive clutter on her desk.
Involve Your Family
Let your family know what you are working on, what your goals are and how you plan to accomplish them. Not only will you be surprised to get some interesting ideas from them, you will also get that much needed support and help. If they don't know what you do, how will they be able to help you?

Wonderful tips! I think dressing the part is an important point (as opposed to wearing bunny slippers all day). Off to straighten my desk...:)
We're glad you found them to be useful...and hope your desk is all tidy now. ;)
