Spammers rake in close to $2 million a year with their dubious sales strategies. Never mind the quality or credibility of their product; they should be applauded just for sheer nerve. No matter how much you hate them, there’s still there, right in your face. What can you, as a blogger, learn from a spammer? Anything, nothing? We say 10 important things, and here they are.

1. Be Everywhere

You wonder how come they’re everywhere, with their penile enlargement Ads. Why is it that so many people know them but so few know you? That’s worth thinking about. Spread yourself out. Be visible on virtually every online resource that’s relevant to your business. Make being visible on social media your highest priority. Participate heartily in other blogs, post comments, and submit guest posts, network, network and network. Oh, and be sure to Invest in some PPC and follow-me Ads.

2. Don’t Make Things Difficult

We see sites that sell products putting up an ‘invitation only’ subscription. What the hell is that? A spammer would be more than glad to have you give him the time of the day. So why bother getting all hoity-toity and making it tough for people to subscribe or join a forum?

3. Be Brief

Don’t wax eloquent; no one has that kind of time these days. A spammer aims to catch your eye with a brief, but to the point message. Not more than a few words. They expect to be ignored, which is why their appreciation is your time is that great. Those two-three seconds of your time are all that they want, and years of spamming has taught them the true value of a potential customer’s time.

4. Work On That Email List

If you’re getting distracted with new-fangled ways to advertise your blog, yourself and your products, stop and think. What about the good old email list? How’s that faring? Are you adding subscribers, removing dead-weights, monitoring your open rate stats? Spammers get people’s attention through their great attention-to-detail, flowery email newsletters. Get working on that list; the more people you get on that list, the higher your conversion rate.

5. Start Automating Things!

If there’s a tool that can do your task efficiently and save you the time, invest in it. There are tools today for everything, literally everything. Automated systems can save you time, relieve your mind and leave you free to do more important things.

6. Keep Your Chin Up

So you’ve tried everything you could but you haven’t gotten that much to talk about in terms of result. You want to give up now, right? Don’t. No spammer gives up. Spammers keep updating their methods, trying to find newer ways of getting under your skin. Of course, they annoy us just as mosquitoes or gnats would, constantly whizzing around our heads, but we can’t ignore them, can we? We’re not saying you need to become a gnat yourself, but take that lesson from them. Don’t stop whizzing around till you bite.

7. Make Your Visitors Feel Good About Themselves

They never start their pitch in a boring, sonorous, sleepy-preacher-on-the-pulpit manner. No, they flatter, they charm, they compliment – they do whatever they can to gain those precious 20 seconds of your time. They’re not beyond using great-looking graphics to grab you either. Anything goes, as long as it’s not disrespectful.  Even a dubious penile enlargement email will have you reading, just for curiosity’s sake.

8. Don’t Slack Off

If you have a lazy attitude there’s no way you can make money with the best of them. For a spammer, the conversion rate is as low as it gets. Still, the spammer keeps at it, which means many hours of dedicated work in a day. A spammer knows how difficult it is to get people’s attention. That’s why they try doubly harder not to lose the advantage they’ve already gained, which means sticking to a hardcore discipline.

9. Know Where The Money Is

Honestly, don’t bother following up with non-spending markets. Spammers don’t. Before you market something, find out if your target audience is the kind that spends money or not. There are many ways to find out this information. Look up various sales surveys to get an idea of people’s mentality in different niches. Set up a survey on your blog to find out people’s earning ability and calculate if they’ll be able to afford your products.

10. Write Great Copy

If you think just putting out a great product is enough and word of mouth will take care of the rest, give that thought a rest. Great copy makes all the difference. Learn to write copy that looks great, reads well and is respectful while being informative. Your product alone won’t make the cut, but a great product with great copy when backed by a solid reputation will do wonders.

Thanks, I really needed that. So here I am participating in your blog (#1). Since teachers are among my targets, I have to work at good copy (#10). I'm trying to get a handle on the automation aspect (#4) with Hootsuite, and trying to decide whether to go back to an older contact management program I have that allows event scheduling. I love your posts and your site, and when I get some of my writings organized in such a way that I can get them on your site, I hope to subscribe soon.
