Reebok has recently launched a new iPhone app that attempts to incite all those couch potatoes to go for a run and stay fit, its called 'The Promise Keeper'. It uses the Social Media strategy to pressurize you to get out and run. The Promise Keeper app will keep all your friends updated about your runs. If you plan to take a run, it will tell your friends about it and if you don't, then the app will tell them that too!
The Promise Keeper makes sure that your friends remain updated about what you are up to. Once you sign up with this app, you will get a running calender. All you need is to mark your runs and your friends will come to know about it by using your Facebook and/or Twitter profile. If you keep your promise to run and hopefully complete it, the app will let you friends know about it so that they can appreciate and congratulate you for doing so. And if not, they will get another good chance to tease or mock you. You will be a victim of their relentless ridicule. ;) It forces you to think twice before you drop or miss your runs.
You can mark a single run or multiple runs at any time. The app will remind you of your schedule even if you tend to forget about it. The app tracks your runs through GPS. For your record, it also allows you to save your running history and share it with your friends through Facebook, Twitter or e-mail, if you like! The app has a special feature of Map Integration that lets you see your exact travels for every run in the app.
Released on April 09, 2011, The Promise Keeper app is now available on the App Store and Android Market. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or updated. So, if you are thinking on losing weight and not just thinking but accomplishing it this time, make your first run to the app store.
The only downside of this app is that it is based on trust system. You may mark your run complete even if you haven't run at all. Sigh!
Reebok aims to promote its Zig Tech running shoes by developing and releasing an app like this. Now, its quite an innovative one! What do you think?
