Dannielle, please introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Dannielle Cresp and I’m a creative direction enabler from Melbourne, Australia. For those of you who aren’t sure what that is, I work with people one-on-one to help them find their creative direction and assist them to drive their businesses in the right direction for their needs. I am also a web designer and writer who blogs daily.
You belong to a family who loves craft. How much does craft mean to you? How do you perceive it?
I do come from a crafty family. It is a big part of my life. When making decisions about whether to buy something new or create it for myself, being crafty lets me choose what is best for that situation. I think that craft is often forgotten or undervalued by people who feel that it is a luxury that their time can not afford. But it gives you the unique opportunity to see your ideas come to life. With some planning you can go from consumer to designer, creator and recipient. It allows you to decide what you want and how it will look and feel.
What are all the forms of craft have you learned?
When I was a child I learned to sew, knit and cross stitch. In the last 10 years I have also learned some woodwork, web design and quilting.
Tell us about your blog. What do you blog about?
My self titled blog, Dannielle Cresp is all about my quest to create a handmade friendly world through mindful living. I have a focus on four main areas: Handmade, Mindful Living, Small Business and Inspiration. All of the these are interlinking themes that allow me to share with my readers my thoughts on building better businesses through changing the way you think about your small business and how you can find your inspiration from anything. I also feature guest posters and interviews most weeks to get another perspective on these ideas.
When did you start blogging? What is the story behind it?
I started blogging in September of 2010 after many failed attempts of blogging previously. It really began as a way for me to share my thoughts on the handmade world and how I see it and it has evolved from there. It has been a great exercise for me to learn to write consistently and the discipline to write everyday.
While reading about you on your website, you sounded quite firm on your ideologies. Would you like to share them with our readers?
I suppose that is true. I believe that you need to stand up for what you believe in even if it’s a difficult stand. I think that we should think before we open our wallets and only buy that which we actually want and what we can afford. I think that debt is a really dangerous thing that is often entered into without much thought, but can end up being a restriction that keeps you trapped. I think that we all need to decide what is important for us and need to make decisions that we are happy to live with. Taking responsibility for your actions is a big part of that.
So, you're a writer too. Tell us about your E-books.
I have two ebooks. One is about living with in your means. It is a practical guide for people to assist them in making a budget that they can stick to without having to give up the things that they desire. It’s not about making sacrifices but about how to manage the money you have to create the lifestyle you want without owing the banks. The second ebook is about blogging and my journey going from blogging sporadically to blogging consistently five times a week or more. It also includes a workbook that allows readers to plan how they can too.
What is 'Handmade Friendly World' all about? What is the idea behind starting it?
Handmade Friendly World is a paid community for creatives who are looking for support with their creative businesses and looking for people to colaborate with. It is a resource for those who are just starting out and those who are looking to take the next step. I started it because I felt that there was a gap in the market where new creatives, especially those outside of the USA, were missing out on the support that they need to grow their small businesses without making all the rookie mistakes that have been made before.
Many of our readers would draw inspiration from you. What would you like to advise them?
I’m a big believer in taking big leaps. I would say that if you have a dream and an idea of where you would like to take it. Do some research, make some plans, and take some baby steps towards it. Because after all life is what you make it so why not at least try to live the life that you want.
