On the 100th anniversary of International Women's day we would like to share a story of a women who not only loves to drink beer but is passionate about a women's role in the beer crafting community.
Alison Grayson, created a documentary highlighting a woman's role in the beer community of the Pacific Northwest and how they're ceaselessly thriving in a male-dominated industry. She shares that "Its not for feminism or equality - its for the love of beer."
Alison is a graduate in film and video production, and the day she was introduced to Portland's craft beer community she experienced love at first sight and instantly connected with the women who are closely involved with the beer industry; and that is when she realized that she has to share their stories with the world.
"I was blown away by how instantly warm and welcoming this community was-it was unlike anything I had ever seen. The craft beer community quickly became my second family, and I started incorporating my background in video production by making short video for friend's beer blogs, festivals, etc." shares Alison in an interview. But soon she realized that there was a huge vacuum between women beer consumers and the women who are actually involved in making it.
That is when she decided to create a documentary featuring stories of all those inspirational women who have made their mark in this industry...perhaps the hard way. She also intends spread more knowledge about the art of crafting beer to men and women both, while trying to figure out the reason as to why there are less women involved in this area and how that can be changed. "If someone who swears she only she only likes wine decides to try a beer or two after watching this documentary, then I've done my job." she shares enthusiastically.
'For The Love Of Beer' is almost complete and currently Alison is working on raising some funds for post-production of the documentary and to cover some more expenses like traveling, festival submission fees, distribution fees, promotion and equipment rentals. She hopes to see her documentary in theaters and television; and is optimist that her project gets picked up as a series. In order to connect with the people who share her passion or believe in what she's working on, she has created a Kickstarter fund raising page and is positive that there are people who will back this project...for the love of beer. :)
