A while back we'd featured 5 Creative, Daring & Successful Entrepreneurs, and Ben Weissenstein, founder of Grand Slam Garage Sales was one of the most inspiring youngest entrepreneur who started his career at the age of 4.

Grand Slam Garage Sales is "the provider of garage sales business kits for entrepreneurs of all ages". Through their website one can book a garage sale, find a garage sale and even start their own garage sale business.

Although we found quite a few articles about Ben and his remarkable journey to becoming an entrepreneur, but that did not satisfy our inquisitiveness. So we contacted Ben requesting a small interview with him, and he has been very kind to spare some time to share his story with us and inspire those who read it.

Ben, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.

My name is Ben Weissenstein and I'm a 20 year old entrepreneur from Houston, Texas. I started my entrepreneurial career when I was 4 years old selling lemonade. Today, I run a few businesses that I founded. One is Grand Slam Garage Sales. We run garage sales for people from start to finish and offer kits that people can buy to help them start their own garage sale business. I also founded and run The Entitled Group, an entertainment company where we book concerts for musicians, mostly rappers.

Tell us about Grand Slam Garage Sales. How did you come up with it?

My mom had a garage sale in 2004. My friend and I helped her out with it. I had always been looking for a new business idea and my mom suggested that I start a garage sale business as there are a lot of people having garage sales but nobody wants to do the work. This way we could help a lot of people out who need help with their garage sale and we could make money at the same time. So I saw the need for Grand Slam Garage Sales and have been working on the business to constantly progress ever since.

Take us on the journey when you started GSGS till present date. How it has been and how do you feel about it?

When I first started GSGS, I didn't know much at all about business. All I knew is that I wanted to be professional and honest. So we bought uniforms and I did everything I could to make sure we looked and acted as professional as possible. Then I started learning as I went. I realized we should keep records and record as much information as we can. So, I started to develop sheets to keep records of where the sales were, customer's names, etc. After that we progressed more, got the right legal work done to protect the business, came up with plans to get business, retain workers and constantly improved. We've gotten press over the years which has helped us to get more business and word of mouth has been great.

We've seen a lot of things that have worked and a lot of things that haven't worked. For example, we've tried different pricing, different organizing methods and different ways of running the sale on Saturday as far as the leftover items at the sale. Now - after potentially expanding multiple times we finally decided on the best route of expansion and are launching our Garage Sale Business Kit to help other entrepreneurs start a successful garage sale business. To summarize, it's been a very interesting and fun journey. I've learned a lot, I will continue to learn and I'm excited to see what's next.

What did you do to promote your business? How difficult it is to spread your word around in this competitive web world?

We barely do any advertising. Sometimes we'll hold a sign or put out flyers but about 90% of our business comes from Media and Word Of Mouth.

You started GSGS in 2004. What are the major changes you've witnessed in promotion and marketing methods?

Not much. We've mainly continued to thrive on Word Of Mouth, some press and flyers. I think it's great to be creative so I spread the word any way I can even if that just means telling someone and they tell someone else or putting it up on one of our social network sites. Overall though, we have an extreme amount of Word Of Mouth that keeps us going.

What is your passion(s)? What are the other things that interests you?

I'm passionate about a few things. I'm passionate about building businesses and in specific creating a garage sale industry that's waiting to be created and become the forefront name behind it. I want people to think Grand Slam Garage Sales when they think of a garage sale. I'm also passionate about inspiring people to go for their dreams as I think anything is possible no matter what your background is. The most important thing is to be motivated, persistent and creative. I'd say another thing I'm really passionate about is helping other people. I really do want to help a ton of people get better lives and be happy. Besides business, I also love Baseball very much and I love hanging out with friends and having a good time.

Currently, what are you working? Is there any dream project of yours?

I'm mainly working on Grand Slam Garage Sales as I launch the Garage Sale Business Kit and make moves to create this garage sale industry. I'm also working on promoting my children's book, Start Small and Grow to teach kids how to start a business.

What would you like to advise an aspiring entrepreneur like you?

Be passionate, driven and motivated. Think big. Know that EVERYTHING is possible. Things will go wrong but don't give up. Stay positive. If something goes wrong or doesn't work, there is always a solution or a way to do something differently to make something work. Dream and be creative!!

Thanks Ben for a wonderful interview. We wish you all the success in the future.
