Jenny Beorkrem had her business idea hanging on her wall for months before she realized that she can actually utilize her creation for launching a new business venture.
Few years ago, she was looking for a poster for her city Chicago but was not able to find a poster that matched her taste for design, typography, originality and simplicity; therefore she decided to design a poster herself.
"The poster hung on my living room wall for several months before I realized the potential of my new design was staring me in the face (literally)." she says. As a result she opened her shop on Etsy for a brief period of time, few months later she launched her own website 'orkposters.com'.
Jenny is a graphic designer who used to be a part of the corporate world at one point of time, but when the idea of Ork Posters hit her, she founded her own business and learnt that she was able to channelize her creativity in a much better way without bothering much about clients. She does not believe in only selling her products, but also thrives to "build a brand that people can relate to"; such an attitude can take small business owners to places.
So what exactly are her posters about?
Ork posters are typographic neighborhood maps that are designed beautifully and are available as posters and screen prints as well. Currently there are posters of 13 cities, along with two very clever posters of human heart and brain. Apart from this, they also sell t-shirts, although these shirts are not available on the website but can be found in their various stores and can also be procured by sending a request via email.
Even though it took a little while for Jenny to recognize her potential, she eventually did manage to take the leap and started working for herself. Therefore, never undermine your capabilities and always remain alert, 'coz like Jenny you never know when an awesome business idea might hit you.
