Flickr Gets A Whole New Look

Posted: 6/24/2010

Flickr, one of largest online photo sharing service, has recently revamped its looks and functions. They have introduced a new 'photo page' apart from larger pictures, better navigation functions and consolidated description.

From now on the pictures displayed will be 30 percent larger in size, the images will be 640 pixels instead of 500; the new photo page will also be wider and taller. They have also introduced a brand new 'light box view' for those who wish to view their pictures dark and dim, it is pretty much similar to Photoshop.

The navigation has also been improved making it easier for users to geotag their photos, they've also rebuilt their film strip which allows users to scroll within the page. The photo owner can also describe his/her name, date and camera on the right side of the image; pop up map over the image is also available for a larger view.

Other than these prominent functions, Flickr has finally incorporated left and right keyboard shortcuts which will surely speedup browsing of images. The new version integrates 'favorite' and 'comments' in the same section.

"We’ve been keen to build a better showcase for your photos for some time. Your photos – everyday captures and extraordinary sightings, local scenes and exotic moments – are central to our DNA because they reflect your individual stories. With the new photo experience, you can discover, share and organize your visual stories in a new and improved way." announced Josh Nguyen on Flickr blog.

Flickr users can preview the new photo page, but a full fledged release to the whole site will take another few weeks.
