So now that you have been blogging for sometime, how do you check if you are doing it good? Most of us solely use the analytics to check our blogging performance, keep track of the traffic and work accordingly. But what happens when Google throws one of its algorithm update right at your blogs face. Stats go down for some of us. Sad!
Now that you're at ground zero, what do you do? Change your blogging strategy? Do something new? Just keep on doing what you always have been doing? Well, to all these questions there are so many answers but the main question here is - Is your blog getting enough readership?
Just check your stats and you'll know the answer; daunting for some. Anyways, lets get to the main question here. It hardly matters if your doing 4 or 8 blog posts a day, if the people aren't reading your posts, blogging for you sir is of no use. You should either stop blogging or change your blogging strategy and do whatever it takes (no spam) to reach the right people.
Here are 5 reasons why people aren't reading your posts:
1. Your blog posts lack that spark
You don't have to make your blog posts spark like Edward Cullen from the Twilight series, you just got to make them worth reading.
Write articles about things that the reader would like, not something that the reader already knows about or is not interested in reading. Even if your blog posts are about interesting things, concept or technology but if its just plain text (no heading, points or photos), you won't be able to make the reader read the whole post. Remember, no one likes reading boring articles.
Blogging is after all infotainment, you have to create content that the reader would enjoy reading (in a professional way, you're a business not an entertainment channel). You can do that by using digital images, photographs, videos and using a short and eye-catchy title for your blog posts. You can also change your blogs layout to something in and cheerful.
Additionally, breath some life into your blog and start speaking directly to your readers instead of writing in 3rd person.
2. Your blog posts are too salesy
I know it's your company blog but remember your no salesperson, so there's no need to brag about your product or services there or post only when you have to promote your product or services.
Your blog is not only for you but for others as well. So write about things that are happening around you, latest technologies, news or in case you own a niche-based blog then post accordingly. And yes, you can spill the beans about a new product or service that is about to be launched or has been launched on your blog but you don't do it every time.
3. You aren't posting much on your blog
Now this is a sad state but happens with most of us, especially in the initial blogging day. I know its hard to come up with content everyday, when you have a business to handle. But I guess, we all can take out an hour or two from our busy schedule to write a blog post or two and in case you can't do that you can outsource it. Hire people to blog for you.
With a dead blog you can't expect to have good stats and readership but with a blog which is alive and rocking you can definitely reach more and more people.
If you want more people to read your blog, then you need to make your blog to be easily discovered.
The cheapest way to do this is that whenever you post a new blog post, promote it across all your social media networks. You can also have all your employees and friend promote the same across all their social media networks. This way you'll be able to reach more people. If your post is really good then trust me it'll spread around the social media networks like a wildfire.
Another thing that you should do is to make your blog optimized for search engines. SEO can help you in getting easily discovered whenever people search for something on the internet. All that you have to do is to include relevant search terms in the articles that you post on your blog.
Bottom-line - Whatever you have been doing or have done, it's about time to change your blogging strategy, if you want people to read your blog posts. So what are you waiting you, let your creative juices flow and start blogging.
