The 3-Day Blog Detox

Posted: 7/30/2013
Have you noticed that whenever you go online these days, you get besieged by a load of adverts promoting different kind of diets?

You get bombarded with messages for raw food diets, detox programmes, beachbody schemes, ab-toner recipes and super foods for honing your body into the ideal shape.

There are smoothies, supplements and sprouting beans, exercises, gym regimes and zumba classes.

It seems that the online community can't get enough of these promises to buy a new product and lose weight, get toned and fit, and gain a new lease of life all by eating a certain super food or following some sort of fad diet for a few days.

It would be great wouldn't it?

Imagine if one of these programmes actually delivered what it promised. Instead of you shelling out a small fortune to get a body that looked exactly the same as it did before, you could pop a couple of pills or supplements each day and go from being normal to super-fit and healthy in just a short time.

Without diet or exercise.

Unfortunately, life's not that simple.

To get the body these guys are promising, we actually just need to follow a healthy eating regime and get more exercise. This is free, but it's not fast.

Applying the crash diet principle to our online business

The good news is, we can do a detox on our blog instead, and we WILL see fast results.

It won't set you back a single penny, and yet I can promise to transform your site in just three days by following my simple detox plan!

Ready?

Here we go!

Day One: Rapid weight loss

You know the mindset for crash diets, right?

Well.

We need a crash blog attitude today.

On our first and most extreme day we're going to take our blogs and put them through the kind of rapid weight-loss programme that fad diets are famous for.

Losing weight online means going through our spam folders and shedding all the junk, deleting obsolete material, responding to customer e-mails and then deleting content we don't need any more, filing all of our posts, making sure they are safely backed up, and doing all the steps necessary to make sure we streamline our sites and make them clutter-free and running smoothly.

We're going to check our content to make sure it's still relevant, and delete anything that has gone out of date or been replaced by more recent, more appropriate information.

At the end of the day, our files will be clean, folders empty and we'll have shed a whole load of unnecessary 'weight' that clogs up our inboxes and uses up needless memory.

Day Two: Toning

Now we've lost all that weight, it's time to tone up our blogs.

Today, we're going to focus on making it run more smoothly, load more quickly, and be completely optimised to meet our clients' needs.

We need to check security and make sure we've downloaded widgets and apps to prevent hacking.
We need to make sure we have the latest versions of all software in place.

We need to get an image optimiser to make sure our graphics don't hamper the loading page and slow things down, and also check out our navigational structure to make sure it is intuitive and lets our clients get what they need in a matter of seconds.

We're going to proof content, get rid of spelling and typing errors, and tone up our blog content to make it easy to use, relevant and accessible for our customers.

Day Three: Future groundwork

OK - anyone can crash diet and lose a few pounds, but it's a common fact that as soon as we stop the hard work, we pile the weight back on.

Day three of your blogging blitz is about putting in the framework for future success, to make sure we don't go back to our old habits.

So, today is for going through your Images folder and sourcing great pictures to use for future posts, to save time.

It's going to involve setting up a strict schedule for updates and posts, and sticking to it as a new great habit for ongoing success.

We're going to write up some back-up material to use for posts when we're stretched for time, and make sure that our operations are running smoothly, to schedule.

We'll generate a whole load of new ideas for content based on what our customers need, and keep it for when we lose online inspiration.

Finally, we're going to double check that all of our content online is backed up safely at the end of every day to protect against future mishaps. When all this is done, we'll have lost loads of weight, toned up - and set the framework for future success.

The great news about blog detoxing is it takes no willpower, costs nothing, and you see instant results.

When you've come to the end of your three-day detox, I reckon a large piece of cake is in order - you've earned it!
