So I've heard that you use Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and StumbleUpon to drive traffic to your website/blog and are still in doubt about using LinkedIn for the same. Well, I totally understand your state of mind. In fact, there are many online marketers who overlook LinkedIn while working on their social media strategy. And why not, at the end of the day everything zeroes down to two things: traffic and conversion rate.

If you think that LinkedIn doesn't fits anywhere in your social media strategy plan, be it in respect to driving traffic or conversions then you need to re-evaluate your decision because trust me, LinkedIn is a goldmine of both traffic generation and conversions.

Why?

It's a social network for professionals, you got both the right people and your so-called potential clients but the trick here is to drive them to your website/blog.

Here are some useful tips to drive traffic from LinkedIn to your website:

1. Avoid leaving your profile incomplete

Your profile is the first thing that your visitors would see and as the saying goes first impression is the last impression therefore, make your profile as impressive as possible. Use your company's logo for your profile picture and make it point to change it in a duration of 2-3 months or whatever suits you.

Fill in as much information as you can and everything that you want the visitor to know about your company. Remember, when it comes to filling in your skills and expertise, choose the words your skills that suits your niche. In case, you're a social media marketing firm then promotion, social media, content development are the sort of skills and expertise to go for.

Also remember, LinkedIn is the social network for professionals so keep your profile meaningful, professional and value driven throughout. The more complete and compelling your profile is, the more are the chances that your visitors would read and visit the links you post.

2. Customize your website links

When you create your LinkedIn profile at first your website links look like this:

And in case you leave your website links like this, your website won't look compelling. In short, if you want more clicks and drive people to your website then customize your website links to something like this:

Create a create a unique call-to-action. Understand your visitors mind, he's not going to click on the normal links unless your website seems relevant to him and that can only be done by customizing your website's link.

How-to: In order to customize your website's link, click on the "edit" button next to one of the websites.

3. Increase your connections

Now that you have completed your LinkedIn profile, you are all ready to do some serious business.  If you want more people to notice your profile, you need to connect with more and more people and that too 1st degree connections.

The more 1st degree connections you have there are more chances that you'll receive more clicks and traffic. This is simply because of the fact that more the people see your updates, the more views you'll receive.

4. Be active

What's the point of having a LinkedIn profile and so many connections when you're not active. Dead LinkedIn accounts are a turnoff, so make it a point to constantly update your status.

The point here is to get noticed, the more you share, more are the chances that you get noticed.

The moment you post a status, it would immediately be displayed to all your connections and in case you're sharing one of your blog's post with a call-to-action, then you're driving traffic to your website. As simple as that!

5. Targeted groups

First and foremost, make it a point to join groups. Find not one but as many groups as possible to join (and by groups I don't mean any group but niche groups, groups related to your brand).

If you want more clicks and drive traffic to your website then sharing your content or links within similar groups is the best practice. There are many groups that have more than 500,000 members and that's large audience for you to engage and direct to your website.

Don't be a serial spammer. Whenever possible, post comments in the groups you're a part of and participate in live discussions. Answer other members' queries.

These groups give you an opportunity to present yourself as an authoritative figure in your niche and thus, the members start taking you seriously and would also follow whatever content you post or discussions you start.

Secondly, now that you're an active member of other groups and have a fair knowledge of how the LinkedIn groups work, it's time for you to start your own group.

Create a group of your niche, add a brief description and summary of it and also add your website's URL. Whenever a new person joins the group, they'd see the group information, your name as the group owner and your website's URL. This way there are more chances that your website would receive additional traffic.

Whenever required, you can also send a message to your group members informing them about a new feature or a service you have just introduced.

6. Use a blog app

Add the blog app to your profile. This application posts the title and first paragraph for your most recent articles that you have published on your blog on your LinkedIn profile. If your viewers like what you're sharing, they would obviously click through and visit your blog.

These six tips are the most basic guidelines that would help you drive traffic to your website. If you want LinkedIn to perfectly fit in your social media strategy plans then don't take it for granted and use it as you use Facebook and Twitter and see the magic.
