Kids can be a handful if their brimming energy is left improperly channelled. Sounds like quite a heavyweight sermon, but nonetheless true.

It has been scientifically validated that a child's brain is much more astute and receptive to grasp newer things and can think way beyond a fully developed adult's brain.

I recently was reading a couple of webpages on the internet that spoke of interesting inventions like apps and everyday mundane things that you and me use. The catch was they were all invented by kids in the age group of 12 to 18 years.

Seeing and actually using a lot of these things that we take for granted, makes one view the fraternity of children in a completely new prism of respect. If you ask me, I'm never going throw the cliched line "Do you think it's child's play?" at any kid ever again. And my heartfelt advise to our readers is - neither should you.

Let's have a look at some of these coolest inventions by kids and teens.

1.  Money Management App- Oink-a-saurus

Technically a kid's app by a 12 year old, the funny sounding app - Oink-a-saurus is actually a product of genius. Modelled to help understand the trappings of money business in a digital fashion, the kids learn to  monitor savings by entering a dollar amount into the app. Moreover, it tracks details such as investments, stocks, bonds in a hassle-free manner, acting as a virtual online portfolio. Interestingly, this app by Fabian Frenandez Han is funded by the New York Stock Exchange.

2. The Algae Mobile

Invented by 17 year Param Jaggi in 2011, this hi-fi geek device uses the carbon dioxide emitted by cars to produce oxygen by using algae as a natural filter in the process. Big tech parties such as EPA, Forbes and the likes are actually fighting it out to validate his invention and secure the patent rights. Still not out in the market officially, the invention is quite a catch for all.

3. Sign Language Translator

Designed by 17 year old Ryan Patteron who saw a group of deaf people struggling in a fast food restaurant to order food, it is a glove that deaf people can wear when they sign. The design technology picks up individual signing styles to translate the text on a digital screen for the waiters to comprehend. As of now the glove works with American Sign Language with the ability to translate text into speech as well

4. Alternate Energy Oil

When the world is strewn for finding out alternative sources of sustainable technology, it is this invention by the 16 year old, Josh Wolf that stands out considerably. The invention looks to extract oil by creating a shock wave among algae so as to help them release lipid oils. The process does not kill the organism and can be re-used for oil extraction as an alternative source of bio-fuel.

5. Superman

One of the most iconic superheroes of our generation, Superman was never meant to be a comic strip character. Doodled by high school kids - Joe Shuster and Jerry Siegel for fun, Superman sketches wearing spandex took three years to find a right publisher in a comic form. Interesting, eh?

6. Revolver

Now that's something no parent would like a child to carry or be remotely in its vicinity. But who could have imagined a teen invent the 'tool of destruction' at the age of 15? That's right! It was Sam Colt who set out impress his fellow classmates by dabbling with hand held fireworks until it burned down their school premises. Known by his namesake, Colt designed many model prototypes and even bought designs from bootleggers to develop a greater design on what we generally know as the .45 revolved

7. Cancer Screening Device

Back in 2009, the brother-sister duo of Ben and Janet, then 15 and 16 years of age, changed cancer screening and tests for the better. Taken up as an experimental project, the duo during their Drexel University days developed a device that could test cancer in early stages before it developed in tumors. The device screens cells on the basis of urinalysis.

Well these were some of the cool ones I felt all of us needed to know. To add to this list are many other inventions like a popsicle, the trampoline stand, protective ear muffs and other such apps invented by kids.
