The time tested proverb "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" stands to be broken by none other than the kings of imitation- the Chinese.

The interesting twist in the tale is the original product to be emulated is still not out in the market yet. Its creditable how the Chinese managed this sneak-peek act.

Okay enough of hype there.

The news feeds today reported that the Chinese are all set to launch their version of Google Glass called as the Baidu Eye.

Baidu, we are aware is the Chinese-language Google-like search engine. They are the latest to join the race of wearable technology this year. "Baidu Eye" is the code name for the wearable technology that gathers relevant information based on photographs and helps in speech recognition for Mandarin.

Despite rumors like Baidu collaborating with Qualcomm in this project, the official clarification today. In fact, the project was seemingly assumed as a Chinese April Fools' Day gag.

The company's Director of International Communications, Kaiser Kuo, in a statement to Mashable confirmed that the project is underway. With the closely guarded media standards in the country, some of the tech sites still managed to reported the story of the "Eye".

The pictures doing the rounds were clarified as valid by Kuo.

In the statement, Mashable reports that the "Eye is a different product from Glass in terms of functionality, he admitted it's similar in that the device is also an "ocular wearable interface." For its part, Glass is a pair of augmented-reality glasses that includes a heads-up display, works through voice command and can take pictures".

Well the Google Glass anticipation is still running high and now added to this a Chinese Baidu Eye.
