Each one of us is a digital puppet and privacy is but a by-word for the partial mesh of safeguards that is self created. But that doesn't discount one from the constant trap of data minesweepers who are on a look out for what you are searching be it personal info, the webpages visited or photos posted.

So basically there's a silent watchdog on your tracks. And you don't even know about the scores of digital doppelgangers that lurk in your name.

Abine, the online privacy firm has launched the mobile version of DeleteMeMobile. iPhone users can now easily download the app to their devices with "one free removal with further monitoring cost of $24.99 for a three-month subscription".

What's baffling is that even top notch social giant firms like Google and Facebook too indulge in data broking. Why indulge in such practices when you have other avenues of conducting business?

To put it simply, with ad targeting becoming a core marketing policy, it is a sort of  round up routine nowadays.

To quote an interesting stat by Abine "over 200 data brokers collect sensitive consumer information". Reputed companies such as Spokeo, Axicom and Intellius indulge in such practices to weave together profiles that carry information based on individual's religious, personal or political affiliations.

Even Mashable commented that "increasingly, decisions are being made based on this version of you, such as your credit scores, ability to get loans, insurance premiums, online shopping prices and whether you're hired."

With Facebook personalizing its data search recently, others in the industry are trying to catch up in the race.

So what does Abine offer exactly?

The firm's privacy analyst Sarah Downey explains the app's functions based on her own user experience. The users simply need to provide some data for web result listings to appear. Abine then matches the data across 50 odd tracking sources online. Its like a face-lifting exercise that begins with identifying the problem area. Accordingly, the users can request for a "Delete Me" detail for whatever needs to be swiped-off the Web's ambit.

With a team of local Boston guys on the core team with legal backgrounds, they offer a workable app that combines technology and human skill nicely. In their words, "We built search technology to comb major data brokers for results, and when users request removal, we've automated some of those processes".

So if you have an iPhone, just try out this newest app from the iTunes store for a better and secure digital identity.
