Google Doodles as most of us know are creative, commemorative and fun designs that the search engine floats on its homepage regularly.
It recently announced its eponymous Doodle competition open for kids in the U.S who can "think big and redesign our homepage logo for millions to see".
This year's theme "My Best Day Ever..." allows kids K-12 to exercise their talent for creative endeavors. Entries from all the 50 States shall be adjudged by a group of 8 leading personalities from various walks of life like journalist Katie Couric, renowned photographer Deborah Feingold, Oscar-winning director, producer Brian Henson and others.
This team of experienced guest jugdes have three criteria's for selecting that one standout entry which shall go live in May this year. The winner also gets a whopping scholarhsip of $30,000 scholarship for college besides a $50,000 technology grant to the affiliate school and other freebies.
So all that the participant kids have to remember are:
1. Do not aim to be a Picasso. Just be original and think creative.
2. Draw something that meshes perfectly with the Google logo.
3. Stick to the theme and express purposefully.
Having laid the ground rules, some of you may wonder what are the supposed intentions behind Google's open hearted philanthrophy, shelling out so many bucks for some Doodles? Why is Google throwing open its doors to such young, inexperienced kids? Isn't it a big business risk? What's the in-house design team doing?
That's a truckload of power-punch questions. Rest assured Google also answers its own problems too.To go straight to the point, yes there is a reason behind Google's move- "User Acquistion Strategy". It is the biggest tool in any firm's hat to keep the connecting thread between the host (business/firm) and its target demographic(users) going. Every successful corporation is built on its sustaining customer base. And how does this channel of constant inflow come? Well its innovative ideas such as Google Doodles that lets the 'other' enter the loop and adding a brick to a corporation's sucess story. With such a personalized business approach in place, Google has a the best reputation as a search engine used by billions the world over.
No doubt Google has an extremely creative bunch of designers and illustrators (called Doodlers) who get fat paychecks to keep the flag of innovation rising and shining. To quote their own words "The doodle selection process aims to celebrate interesting events and anniversaries that reflect Google’s personality and love for innovation...and bring smiles to the faces of Google users around the world."
