Well nobody needs an incentive to drink on the New Year's Eve nor want a extra push to indulge with friends and family. A balanced flavor of food, drink and company is sure to enliven your party as 2012 lapses.
But how many of us actually get to go to such parties or how many of us actually remember anything stand out about last year's bash? The pattern is set. The same old family, the same old hang out places and the same old drinks to be had. After a bit of dancing, browsing through the host's CD collection, doing the official duty calls with aunts and uncles and dining, most of us have no clue what to do next. Totally not worth a penny, such morose partying!
Don't most of us want to do something different this time. Well if you are one of those, just get set to bid adieu to 2012 with your dear ones by throwing a house party this New Year's Eve. Most of us would have contemplated that, but get bogged down by the budgets and the obvious mess that is left. For others, its the million dollar question of how to keep the guests entertained!
A bygone tradition of the past, popularly known as the parlor games are soon lapsing into oblivion. This Holiday Season, it is best to combine drinking and games to make the party more interesting. Indulging in drinking just for the sake of drinking is so old school!
Here are some fun games to keep the ball rolling for the evening.
1. Bop It
Most of us have played this game atleast once. But Bop-It-for-Drinks is a new version you must try. Its one game you can involve the kids too so that they don't feel left out; in fact the larger the group, more is the fun involved. Its a fast paced game that starts with passing the bop piece around with drinks going along side by side. The game piece will say bop it so one has to bop it fast or twist it, pull it so aon so forth until someone messes up the sequence. The person who messes up, drinks for the folly. The combo of drinking and fast thinking often livens up the game with concentrations lapsing as the evening wears off.
2. Power Hour
If drinks are on the house, this is just the game for you. A little bit of stamina and lots of bladder control will make it an interesting evening of play. There are really no rules as such. One just has to take a shot worth of beer every minute for a hour. Sounds like child's play but sadly it isn't. Technically one would end up having 6 beers at the end of an hour, dancing to 60 songs of a minute each. This is a much sough after entertainment among college students or even those who just began drinking. Its totally worth the effort.
3. Never Have I Ever
A close group of friends ready to dig into each other's secrets, just grab a couple of beers and an inquiring mind for starts, the fun will follow. Its a great ice breaker for a party but definitely not meant to be played with parents, siblings and extended family.
Everybody just sits around in a circle and start by making a True statement beginning with "Never Have I ever...". If the other players have done what the person said, they simply drink. Even otherwise if one drinks despite not having done so, its a drink of simple affirmation. No explanations required there. As the game goes on, more details are divulged. The real fun is when people play it with the right amount of honesty and fair play.
4. Up and Down The River
On the flip side, going "Down" the river means giving away drinks. Suppose the dealer says "Take 4" and pulls an adjoining number say 3, its upto the other player to offer more drinks or split it up. The "Give" drinks go down until one gets 1 and then the "Take" rounds begin again. It technically has no end until the players call it quits. Its an out-an-out game for pro's.
5. Kings
This is a game played very commonly among those who like to host regular big bashes. All you need is a huge group, a deck of cards minus the joker and some drinks to go along. The drink is placed in the center with the cards spread face down around it. To start off, one can go by the person with the earliest birthday or some such rule. The aim of playing this is to complete a whole round without getting the last King with each of the other cards requiring some action.
If one gets a 10 card they can drink with the whole group as a whole or go by the thumb rule i.e putting one's thumb on the edge of the table and the last person to put the thumbs down takes a drink. This continues until someone else gets a card 10 and a new Thumb rule is devised.
A Jack card denotes a rhyme. The person on the left says a word and others follow suit with a rhyming word until someone messes up to take a drink.
The Queen is a category card that allows on eto choose a drink of one's choice but no light drinks are allowed. The time allowed to name a drink is just 5 seconds.
An Ace card is called as a waterfall card which means the whole group gets to gobble a drink as long as the main player drinks.
Finally coming to the dreaded card- King. If one pulls this, the card is placed along the drink until the Fourth King is pulled out from the deck. The last person has to slam the possibly warm drink that is in the middle. This, mind you is not an easy task because it is almost the end of the game. You don't want to get the last King.
These are just a few popular games we found worth sharing. Others like Beer Pong, Flip Cup, Jenga, Speed Bump are age old games for a fun get together that you can play too. It all comes down to an individual choice according to the company that you are wanting.
A small word of advise here. Well New Year's is not just about drinking and recklessness. You can do something different again. You can volunteer to take care of your buddies, host a purely juice and cocktail party, catch up on old movies or do something creative with your kids. Imagine a New Year's day minus a nasty hangover; that's guaranteed fun for sure.
We wish all our readers an outstanding New Year's Eve.
