What's rocking the boat in the Biz world since last week? It's not Doomsday nor is it a return to a Titanic-style showdown.
It's December 10, 2012. There's unusual fall in rankings of some websites, while the traffic-flow data shows a kink for others. Well it wasn't a too happy or sad extra-ordinary thing that happened. Just hold the reins for a second, it was a false alarm!
Most webmasters and SEO's were once again left in a fix by the supposed moot call doing the rounds on the Web about Google's latest algorithmic update. What the rumour mills churned was that, this was an update almost in sync with the Panda and Penguin upgrades that Google has introduced in the past few years. Moreover, the thing got more footage precisely due to the changes that showed up on Google's very own update portals- MozCast, SERPmetrics and SERPS.com.
The bottom line is : It is what it is- RUMOURS. Well although not being an unusual or unprecedented move, it comes in the wake of normal updates that Google keeps floating on a monthly and annual basis. To be more precise, Google upgrades its search algorithms almost 500-600 times. Why is this an important news bite then?
A thorough understanding of such upgrades is what helps SEO, marketers, Biz analysts and Businesses optimize their content. They have to keep track of the page rankings and organic site traffic that is generated every-time something like this happens. By and large, Google has a very transparent policy whenever such updates are scheduled. But this time the lack of communication is what is lacking from Google's part.
Was it a small bug or a real time flaw in the infrastructure is yet to be clarified. In addition, Google spokespersons too have been mum on this issue.
As a fellow Business enterprise, we share the concerns and experienced the same glitches that most of you would have. What we think is that no matter, updates or no updates, the real power still lies with the webmasters still. How? Well just keep writing quality content and don't be caught in the tension-net if SERP will catch your keywords or not. Such temporary stopovers just teach us to be on our marks, always.
