The best thing about an idea is that you can come up with the stupidest idea and make it work. Seems simple... doesn't it? But the catch is coming up with that one idea that's going to work and I bet its a difficult task, keeping in mind that almost all the ideas have been used in all possible way. But don't let this kill the entrepreneur inside you. Always remember the fact that the best ideas are common property. And if in case your still worried try BuyMyIdea.
BuyMyIdea is one stop for many start-up ideas; ranging from ideas for business apps, products, restaurant concept, TV shows, website and what not. René Andreasi- Bassi is the brain behind BuyMyIdea. René who works a fulltime creative job in television, loves to think of new start-up ideas. Since he works a daytime job, its not possible for him to realize all his start-up ideas. Therefore, he created BuyMyIdea, where he uploads all his ideas and sells them for just a dollar as he believes that ideas are just a multiplier of execution so its the execution that matters the most.
"Why? 50 years from now, when I lie dying on my deathbed, I don’t want to look back and think of all the great ideas that never saw the light of day. Instead, I want others to get hold of as many of my start-up ideas as possible and realize them for me," he says.
There's no sign-up, no registration to log-in into the website, you just have to surf the ideas until you get what you are looking for or just click on the particular category of idea that you are searching for. René has written down all his start-up idea on a sheet of paper that he has scanned into his computer. So every time when someone makes a purchase, he downloads a zip-file with the scanned paper. But once an idea is sold, its available for everyone else to download, increasing the execution chances for that particular idea. So be quick and execute that idea as soon as possible. You can register the idea, patent it or do whatever you want to do with it and please don't forget to inform René, in case you have realized his idea.
If you are looking for ideas worth a million then BuyMyIdea is your destination. Read on to know more about BuyMyIdea in our exclusive interview with it's founder René.
1. Hi René, please introduce yourself to our readers.
But of course! I'm a half Dutch, half Italian guy living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Creativity is pumping through my veins rapidly ever since I can remember. For that reason I focused on a creative study and career. I currently work for Discovery Channel as Creative Manager where I lead a team of creatives who I inspire to come up with new unique campaigns.
2. What is BuyMyIdea? What inspired you to come up with it?
BuyMyIdea is my online crib full of startup ideas. As my overdriven brain comes up with so many startup ideas, it’s practically impossible for me to execute all of them. That’s why I created BuyMyIdea.com where I put all my ideas up for grabs. You know, 50 years from now, when I lie dying on my death bed, I don’t want to look back and think of all the great business ideas that never saw the light of day. Instead, I want others like YOU to get hold of as many of my startup ideas and realize them for me!
3. How do you manage to get the time to work on BuyMyIdea, given the fact that you have a fulltime creative job in television? What’s your motto of life?
It's tough, no doubt about that. Its all about planning. My day job has little surprises when it comes to planning. I know when I'm back home at the end of the day. 50% my evenings are booked with BuyMyIdea. The rest goes to friends and family: still the most important thing in life. It all comes down to the Buddhist cliche we've heard a thousand times: do what you love most and you will be happy. This is the only way to survive working these many hours.
4. Your startup ideas are interesting. The buyers of your ideas could stand to gain a lot if they have a well planned execution strategy on the ideas proposed by you. You can potentially make more money selling your ideas at a higher cost, rather than selling them for just $1. What’s your take on this and why specifically $1?
You're right, but the hassle of execution is on them. I'm not interested in that. I love the ideation part. Its like eating Jelly Beans, its short, sweet and gone. Then you take another one. To me, coming up with ideas is like doing simple math. It takes just a few seconds. I'm bad at other things but this area just suits me I guess. The $1 stands for the few seconds it took for me to come up with the startup idea. It's an easy and fun amount that is good to market. That said, I wanted the ideas to be downloaded by those who are really interested. Not just anyone. Instead of making them free the $1 fee also acts like a little buffer to keep the jokers out.
5. How do you manage to think of so many different ideas?
There are numerous ways and I expolain many of them on my blog. One is to look for problems around you, also the smaller ones at home. The "wouldn't it be handy if..." ones. These often turn out to be ideas for products. Its important to think different and be a little crazy. Another method is by turning things around. So if you have a certain issue, first think of the obvious solution. Then think of the opposite and add some weirdness to it. For example, you're a writer and you want to write a new thriller/murder story: Instead of starting with a dead body after which detectives find the killer, turn it around. Start with the killer who walks into the police office who says "I killed someone". He is not going to say who. Now the detectives have to find the body and try to convince the killer to help them in their quest. Just add more fantasy and its a hit!
6. Apart from providing aspiring entrepreneurs with different startup ideas, what other services do you have for them?
I offer creative consults over Skype and I am available as business partner if you want me to join your startup. My blog is also interesting for people who want to come up with their own ideas. On my blog I post inspirational stuff on how to look for new startup ideas yourself and more.
7. When not working on BuyMyIdea and your fulltime job, what activities do you enjoy the most? Share with us the best compliment that you have received for your creative ideas.
I have many hobbies. I play the drums and guitar, I oil paint portraits and villages, I draw cartoony things, I cook all sorts of world food, I discover new bands all the time, I hang out with my girlfriend, drink beer with friends and gather around with family. And I love to go to Italy once a year where we have an apartment at the Mediterranean Sea. There my activities come to a total stand still for three weeks.
The best compliment is from my nephew who so genuinely believed in one of my startup ideas he offered to fund half of the production costs. I also hear many people say they like the positive twist the ideas got. All have a certain fun and social factor to them which makes people smile.
8. What are on the top shelves of your inspiration library right now? This can be anything from blogs, books and magazines to vintage catalogues/manuals, etc.
A) Making Ideas Happen by Scott Belsky: very good read that gives you strong guidance in structuring your creative mind. B) The David Icke Guide To Global Conspiracy by David Icke: this guy David is just so mad I love him for it! He thinks reptilian aliens are currently living under our earth crust and will surface in the near future to eat up all humans. A crazy read to rattle your creative senses. C) Can Mosquitoes Get Drunk? by Juliette Vasterman: Its a Dutch book (no English version yet) with loads of strange questions that get answered by real specialists like professors and doctors. Great fun, educating and inspiring!
9. What are your future plans for BuyMyIdea?
Good question. I want to open it up for other creative people who have a track record in a creative industry. I'm currently looking for people who want to help me achieve this: programmers and investors. It takes a lot of programming to overhaul my current site into a multi user site with the same capabilities. I will market the site even more. I'd also like to talk about BuyMyIdea on TV shows and radio broadcasts who like to highlight fun sites like these.
10. What would be your most valuable advice to a budding entrepreneur?
"Get in touch with me!" I love to think about anyone's endeavors and I will give creative advise on the go. I could also learn a thing or two from them of course. But most importantly, stick to the dream you want to realize. If you gather the right people around you and anything is possible. Make sure you find ambitious people who don't work for the money only, but love what they're doing. This creates true team spirit. Every self respecting entrepreneur knows (s)he can't get anything done without the team.
Thank you René for taking out the time and doing this interview with us. We'd like to wish you and BuyMyIdea the very best for the future.
