Fabio Giolito launched WeHeartIt in 2008, for him it was just a way to save and tag images or images from the different blogs that he followed. But today, WeHeartIt is one of the coolest bookmarking application on the internet. No downloading, no copying of URL, just directly upload your favorite images or videos.
If you are curious about how the application works, it's simple. After you successfully register and update your bio, you are directed to your home page where you can search for images or videos to heart and people you want to follow. There are oodles of images or video to heart on the website and once you are done with that you can explore other websites and blogs. The best feature of WeHeartIt is that it allows you to link your Facebook and Twitter account, making it easy for you to connect with friends from both Facebook and Twitter. You just have to install the heart button as an extension of your browser and directly upload images or videos from other websites and blogs. Once you heart an image or video on another website, you can add it to a particular set and give it tags and this image or video would now show up alongside the other images or video that you already have on WeHeartIt dashboard. Read on to find more about WeHeartIt, in our exclusive interview with the founder Fabio.
1. Fabio, please introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Fabio Giolito. I'm a designer and entrepreneur from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I created We Heart It in late 2007 and have been working on it ever since.
2. Can you explain the concept behind WeHeartIt to our readers. What led to its creation?
As a designer I'm always looking for inspiration, and browsing images online. I needed a way to keep them organised in one place that allowed me to share them with friends. As my friends started using the site, it grew to be a great source of inspiring images, and it never stopped growing.
3. How is WeHeartIt different from other pinning sites like Pinterest, Pinspire and Gentlemint?
WeHeartIt is a site focused on images that inspire you, it is about sharing beautiful things and emotions. Other sites, such as Pinterest, caters more about the user's interest in products.
4. People are using WeHeartIt to promote their website/blog. Was WeHeartIt designed keeping that in mind?
People are using our site in sometimes very creative ways. We do not put any limit, nor do we want to, in how you can let other people know about the things you love. It is the same for blogs and websites. Even brands have some pages on We Heart It, but it is always about showing the emotion behind the brand, rather than the brand's products.
5. We see that you have a huge number of Facebook Likes. How did you promote the site on social media platforms?
We do not do any promotion to any social network. All the Facebook Likes came spontaneously from our users.6. What is the biggest compliment that you have received for creating WeHeartIt?
The biggest compliment I could ever receive is the love from the community: http://weheartit.com/weheartit/sets/3484698-we-heart-it
It's amazing to see how much people care for the site. It has a positive impact in their lives and help them express themselves.
7. What activities do you enjoy when you are not working on WeHeartIt? What do find most relaxing?
I like to DJ at parties, so I'm always at one with friends.

8. What other people do you look up to? If you could peek inside the studio/toolbox of any designer/artist whose would it be and why?
Who wouldn't like to peek inside Apple's design lab?
9. What are your future plans for WeHeartIt? Are you looking to add any cool new functionality?
Ah, we have lots of projects. Recently, we have been busy on our mobile app. People love our beta app for the iPhone and iPad and we are really excited with the next version.
10. What valuable advice would you offer to budding entrepreneurs and start-ups?
Never look back, have a good team and be passionate about your users: it takes a lot of risks, efforts and lots of failures to have success. But nothing is more important than the small group of passionate people that works together as a team to achieve that goal. At We Heart It, we would do anything for our users. Period.
Thank you Fabio for working with us and taking the time for this interview. We wish you and WeHeartIt the very best for the future.
