You can call it a marketing gimmick or a creative social media campaign, you can call it branding or simply a generous offer, but at the end of the day you will wanna be one of those lucky people in Denmark, standing in front of 'The Generous Store'.

Anthon Berg, a 125 year old Danish chocolate brand strongly believes that 'You can never be too generous' and therefore they created a pop-up chocolate store where they have no use of money, all they need is a promise of a good deed.

For every chocolate bag picked, the customers have to make a pledge. Every bag is marked with a unique price tag that says, 'serve breakfast in bed to a loved one', 'don't comment on your girlfriend's driving for a week', 'help clean a friends' house', 'or 'a week where you don't lie to your father'.

Instead of heading towards the cash register, shoppers are asked to pledge their good deed using an iPad. They are asked to log in to their Facebook account and go public with their promise, the promise is posted on both receiver and giver's wall. If not the yummy chocolates, at the least pressure will make sure that the deed is accomplished. Like I said, it is one of the most creative social media campaign I've some across.

It is needless to say that the pop-up chocolate store received a tremendous response with loads of shoppers flocking the store and walking out with a smile and a mission. This is a great example for many brands out there to realize that simply providing discounts or free stuff is not enough in today's competitive world, you have to unleash the creativity within.
