Recycling is one of my favorite subjects to write about. It is quite interesting to see how artists create something outstanding with an item that would, otherwise, be of no use. One such artist is Mary Ellen Croteau, based in Chicago, who works in different disciplines and vivid mediums to bring forward the unreasonable social norms.

Drawing inspiration from Chuck Close's lifelike painted portraits, Mary has created a self-portrait from thousands of recycled plastic bottle caps. Mary initially intended to create an endless column of these caps but ended up creating a self portrait. This amazing piece measures 8 feet by 7 feet.

It is giant, looks beautiful with colorful caps and extremely artistic. And of course, it is a commentary on using non-recyclable products in our daily lives that makes it much more appealing.
