Instagram, one of the most popular photo sharing apps for iOS has finally decided to reach out to Android users.

Instagram's founders, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger shared this information in a recent SXSW conference in Austin, Texas. "In some ways, it's better than our iOS app. It's crazy." said Systrom. This announcement came along with Instagram surpassing 27 million users.

Being an Android user myself, I am really looking forward to using Instagram, specially since I know a lot of people who not only appreciate this visually interactive app, but also find it to be as engaging as Twitter.

According to TechCrunch, the co-founders of Instagram received a welcoming review from Google, since Instagram's inception in fall of 2010, the company has been caught up with focusing on improving with iOS, and that has been the only reason as to why it has taken a while to bring this app to Android.

"I don’t think it took us so long. We just had priorities. Had we tried to be both on Android and iPhone at the same time, it would’ve been tough to innovate in the way that we have,” Systrom said.

Instagram was declared the 'App of the Year' by Apple in December 2011, at the time they already had more than 15 million users, and in less than three months they've almost doubled that figure. According to the founders, the launch of iPhone 4S played a vital role as well.

"We have a visual platform and advertisers like visual mediums. They like TV and magazines, but attention is moving online and they want to switch,” shares Systrom. “I do believe that Instagram has put a stake in the ground and we’re growing more quickly than anyone. Is there something in there we could do to make it a multi-billion dollar business? I think we can figure out something along the way."

Although iOS has played a huge role in making Instagram an instant hit, but I am sure with Android users under their umbrella, Instagram is bound to grow exponentially. What do you say?

I keep wondering when this was going to be out! It seems like it has taken forever.
