“Depend upon it there comes a time when for every addition of knowledge you forget something that you knew before. It is of the highest importance, therefore, not to have useless facts elbowing out the useful ones.” - Arthur Conan Doyle.
Crummy articles just about do the exact opposite – replace the relevant facts with useless ramblings that lead nowhere. Some geniuses on the internet believe that stuffing keywords within an article will ensure higher ranking. Insanely so, they promote articles/blog posts unfit for human consumption!
These articles/blog posts – mostly spam – are written for the search engine bots, which, they think, cannot differentiate between great articles and the bad eggs.
To cut a long story short (readers take a bow!), great articles deliver useful content to their readers. Quality content is The Ticket to figure in the A-list of SERPs. Why? Read on:
1. Bad Content Comes to Haunt Websites – Well not literally as in some ghost story. A website that hosts irrelevant, grammatically incorrect and meandering content is like a ghost town, whose residents are only the ghosts themselves. A well written and informative content derives quality traffic to the website. The sole purpose of readers is to seek information. If the website fails to provide what they are searching for, obviously they move on to another content rich website.
2. Raises Credibility Issues - There is good content and then there is great content. Great content builds the website’s credibility and reputation. Content ranking high on usability aids in bringing in quality traffic that eventually allows the search engines to consider it trustworthy. The search engine spiders are programmed to sift through the online content and focus on quality content that attracts organic traffic. Eventually this enables the website to rank higher on the search engine pages.
3. Content Modeled Around The Readers’ Needs Makes It To The Top– Online content should be user friendly. Keeping in mind the profile of a browser, websites can incorporate content copy that is easy to understand, is visually appealing and answers all the queries that a reader has. The ability of a website to attract quality traffic that converts makes for a plus point in the search algorithms.
4. Bad Copy Attracts Dislikes and No Shares – Readers scan the web in search of information provided in articles/blog posts so that it can prove useful to them as well as others. Factually written content demands to be shared while a bad copy will attract nothing but dislikes. A website that indulges in keyword stuffing attracts penalty or even a ban from the search engines.
5. Quality Content Improves Click Through Rate – A click through rate is the rate at which visitors will click on websites that are linked by the content in a website. Poor content is written with the sole purpose of attracting the search engine bots and nothing else. The copy does not read naturally and is stuffed with keywords that have no place within an article/blog post. The reader being discerning, would rather not take the risk of clicking on links provided within the article/blog post or they totally ignore the links added in the author acknowledgement section.
Readers are no fools. They know what is good enough for a share and what is bad enough to be chucked out. Even the search engines, now have the ability to differentiate between good and bad. So it makes sense to write not only a good copy but a great one as well.
