After I quit University, the only jobs available were "Call Centre" jobs. Working 9-6 Monday to Friday, I was making on average 100 sales calls a day. These calls were "cold calls", meaning they didn't know who I was or even the company I worked for, so you can guess the success was very low in terms of closed sales.
After a couple of years I could do the job standing on my head and I mainly spent my time drawing whilst on the calls. What I often wondered was, is there a way I could automate the job and make sales without even being stuck to the phone for 8 hours a day. I worked out what a year looked like on paper:
100 Calls A Day X 5 Days = 500 Calls A Week
40 Working Weeks In The The Year = 20,000 Calls
5% Sales Conversion = 1,000 Sales
Commission Per Sale = £20.00
Annual Income = £20,000
The job I had was 100% commission, so there was no actual basic salary. With the internet you can actually produce a product and a video which will act as the sales call and order fulfillment. I knew that if I produced an information product or course, this could be a chance to actually leave the call centre and work on illustration and animation rather than spending all my time glued to a phone.
Fixing your product and sales call in place, is the first stage. The next is to have enough traffic for 100 fresh people to visit your site every day which will generate enough leads to convert into sales.
Next month I'll show you exactly how I found 100 leads a day without actually being at the computer!...
