Stanley Chow is a UK based caricaturist who draws the most amazing illustrations I have ever came across. The variety in the designs is superb; some are funny, some are ironic and some quite meaningful. But all of them have one thing in common - 'simplicity'. It is rightly said that simplicity measures the true value of any work of Art and Stanley's work is a perfect example.
Stanley career began almost 15 years ago, soon after when he left Art school. He designed posters while DJing and later joined illustration agencies. And now, he is one of the most established artists in UK.
We contacted Stanley for a small interview with us and he has been kind enough to spare some time for us. Catch it below with some of my favorite pieces from Stanley's portfolio:
Stanley, let's start with a brief introduction of yours.
I am 37, I am from Manchester, England and I am freelance illustrator.
What influences the artist within you?
I'm influenced by things I see everyday, by the books I read, the films I watch.

Would you like to describe your creative work process form generating the idea till executing it?
I will have a basic idea in my head. Then I'll go straight to the computer and try and create my idea. If I am doing a celebrity caricature, i will go on Google and find references. It's as simple as that... I don't do any sketching.

I know it'd be difficult for you to pick but we would love to know your favorite illustration.
The Blue Tit... it's a British bird which I am very fond of and the Green Lady.. I adored the original by Vladimir Tretchikoff, and this is my tribute to his version.

Take us on your artistic journey that you've walked so far. What has been the breakthrough point or is it yet to come?
I left Art School when I was 20 years old... I spent a few years struggling. Then in 1999, the Central Illustration Agency (London, UK) recognised my talents and I joined them. In 2001 I joined Bernstein & Andriulli (New York agency). In 2007 I did some work with the White Stripes, which was then nominated for a Grammy Award... and I think that's when it changed. But also since 2009 when I started understanding the power of the internet, which has enabled me to reach out to a much wider audience.

Share the best compliment you've ever received for your work.
It's very difficult to be able to quantify the words of compliments. But for me the best compliment is when I go into someone's home, and I see one of my pictures on their wall. Still my proudest moment is when Jonathan I've (Apple) bought a print off me. He bought the picture of the girl on a bike.

Do you have any dream project(s)?
My dream project would probably be the senior designer of full-length animated movie... but I think the possibilities of this may have passed me by. Though I do have a more realistic dream which is to open a small Art Gallery with my wife, who is a photographer.

What are the other things that interests you? What do you do in your free time?
I don't have much free time, but I do watch Manchester United play football, as I live near the football ground.... I also very much enjoy watching US dramas on TV and going to the movies.
And a final word for our readers....?
Dedication.
Stanley, thank you for being with us. We had a great time talking to you. We wish you and your wife all the best for your Art Gallery.
