Wang Guanyi is a 46 year old internationally recognized Modern Chinese artist known for his Cultural Revolution Style painting. Recently, he has been awarded with an honor by Shanghai-based China Records Headquarters for creating the largest-ever model house made entirely of cigarette boxes.
Wang has used 600,000 empty colorful cigarette cases to build a 30 square feet house like building and it took him a month to finish. It was 6.06m long, 4.68m wide and 1.68m wide. The house had to be torn down as it was built on a rented space and the fees was high.
Wang started collecting cigarette boxes from a very young age and picked up the first one at the age of 7. Since then, he has been gathering them together to cope up with such a masterpiece some day. Wang was inspired by a TV show about a man who built a house from wine bottles and decided to built his own with the exclusive collection of cigarette packs.
Now, Wang has a target to use 1 million cigarette boxes to build a two-story museum which would be able to house 300 people at once.
