Newspaper House By Sumer Erek

Posted: 7/24/2011
Sumer Erek, a brilliant multidisciplinary conceptual creator has created a house made up of discarded newspapers. The house is 5-meter high and has been built in London Square. It took almost 150,000 newspapers to build this house, carefully inserted in a wooden frame. People wrote their thoughts and wishes on the newspapers before they were rolled to logs.

"A house is a building, it is a roof over one's head, and it is also a repository for nationhood, identity and belonging. By creating a house, I don't only dwell upon my existence in it, but also build a 'home' for art", shares the artist.

It is a public installation set up back in 2008 using newspapers collected in and around the public realm and built in participation with members of the public. It looks fantastic and its actual beauty lies in the material used. Check out some of its visuals.

It surely is, not sure about how much time it took but definitely had a lot of effort put into it. We are trying to get in touch with the artist for a small interview with us and hopefully we'll learn much more about this art. :)
