Dan Cassaro is a Brooklyn, NY based dexterous designer, animator and typographer. His designs are clever with a pinch of humor and attraction. Best known for his projects, Fifty and Fifty and Springstreets, Dan has placed himself in one of the most talented creatives.

Young Jerks is the place where he shows all his artistic and typographic skills through posters, logos, books and other printed materials.

"Design is informed by music, culture, politics, and everything else that's happening around us. Being involved and aware of these other things only makes our work better. It's a good excuse for me to go out and live an engaging life outside of designs", shares the artist.

We recently featured his 50 and 50 project on our blog. Impressed by his creations and ideas, we decided to contact him for an interview and he has been very kind to spare some time for us and our readers. Catch his interview below amidst some of his best creations:

Did you take any formal training in designing or is it something that comes naturally to you?

I graduated from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan.

Tell us something about 'Young Jerks'. We would love to know its inception.

Well, it’s sort of a joke and sort of not. The Young Turks were Ottoman revolutionaries, so it’s kind of a bratty take on that – but I’d be lying if I said the Rod Stewart song didn’t have something to do with it too.

Your '50 and 50' project's concept it awesome. How did this creative idea strike you?

I began noticing the mottos on signs when we crossed the borders to different states and was very taken with them. The original plan was to do type treatments for all of them myself, but I eventually scrapped the idea, thinking it would be better to have it be a collaboration with all the people from the different states. It helped to vary the project and now I have friends in every state!

Awesome! Let's have a rapid fire:

One internet tool you can't do without?

LinkedIn. Just kidding. I've been way into Spotify lately though.

Music you listen while working?

Springsteen, Wings, Queen, Warren Zevon

Coffee or tea?

Coffee. Forever.

Phrase that you use quite often?

"Get real."

Person you admire the most?

My Dad.

Which project is the most special to you?

My Springstreets poster was definitely the biggest labor of love project I've worked on.

Many other artists and our readers would draw inspiration from you. What message do you have for them?

Do what you want and make work for yourself whenever you can. People appreciate the honesty. As soon as you stop trying to please this imaginary audience is the exact time you start connecting with people.

Dan, thanks for being with us on our blog. It was a wonderful experience learning about you a bit. We look forward to more awesome work by you. We wish you all the very best!
