Michele, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Hello, my name is Michele Welch and I am the founder of NewBizblogger, Tweet ‘n Mingle (coming soon) & co-founder of Wordpress Junkies. My goal in life is to help other entrepreneurs create an online business presence with creating their website, search engine optimization and social media marketing implementation.
Firstly, let's talk about your blog 'NewBizBlogger'.
I started NewBizBlogger in March of 2010 and it happened completely by accident. Two years prior to creating NewBizBlogger, I had started an ecommerce site called Thrift 4 Kids. This is something I had created from scratch using Zencart ecommerce software. Although having an online store was great, I soon realized that my true passion was in the creation of websites, optimization, marketing and training other entrepreneurs.
How did you start blogging? We would love to know about the inception of 'NewBizBlogger'.
I started blogging around two years after starting my online store. I decided it was important for me to document and share my journey. I have learned so much already and felt I would be able share that knowledge with other entrepreneurs to help them with their own online ventures. I understood and could relate to the complexities of starting an online business; and recognized the challenges that arose once you’ve opened for business from how to create a website, getting traffic to using social media effectively to connect with like-minded individuals and market your business.
When you started your blog, did you ever think it would become as famous as it has become now?
Haha, I wouldn’t say it’s famous. ;-) But I will say that it does get a fair amount of exposure and it continues to grow, which is the important thing. I honestly really didn’t know what to expect when I first started blogging and sharing my journey. But I often feel quite surprised how much I’ve grown as an entrepreneur and a blogger and how I’ve impacted others with my viewpoints and training.
What do you think makes your blog stand out?
I think what makes it stand out is that I constantly strive to push myself and take it to the next level. In everything I do, I aim to be impactful. Whether it’s in a post, a Facebook update, a video or even a tweet, I put a lot of thought into whether or not what I’m sharing is going to make a difference for the person on the other end.
How blogging has benefited you both personally as well as professionally?
Personally, blogging has allowed me to find my voice and hone in my writing skills that I forget I had. It’s been a journey for sure. My first posts were not so pretty. I wrote how I “thought” I should write. Once I let that go and discovered my voice, that is my true writing style, everything shifted. Professionally, I’ve connected with many other bloggers and business owners that I would never have otherwise. It’s been an amazing experience and I’ve met amazing people. I’ve collaborated with others in endeavors that have enriched my blogging and business experience as well as helped me put NewBizBlogger on the map.
According to you, what is the key to a successful blog?
What I like to call the New PPC – Persistence, Patience and Consistency. There is no quick fix to running a successful blog. It takes time, it takes work, it takes a desire to grow and push yourself to new levels. It’s the willingness to never settle for less than what you can give; always giving 100% in everything you do. Be strategic, but realize that your success will be in connecting with others and always be willing to give more than you get.
You interact with so many entrepreneurs every day, what is that one problem common to all of them; the problem that they face in starting or running their ventures?
I don’t think it’s just one problem, but a combination of various challenges. Marketing, chasing shiny objects and focus are just a few of the common issues entrepreneurs/bloggers face.
And one common trait all of them have?
Almost every entrepreneur/blogger that I’ve come in contact has exhibited one very apparent commonality – and that’s the desire to succeed! Whether or not they’ve been able to find it is another story; but their desire has them working hard and continuing to forge forward. It’s truly inspirational.
What are your views about E-commerce?
Did it… love it! If you can find a product to sell, whether it’s a physical or informational, I say go for it! There’s nothing like providing great value to others with exceptional products. Just make sure there’s a need for the product(s) you want to sell. Rely on surveys and polls to do some market research.
Share the best incident that you have encountered on this journey of blogging.
Hmm… this is a tough one as I’ve had so many. But the one that stands out for me at the moment is playing Tweet It Forward with about twenty other bloggers/business owners and just having the best time with it. It’s amazing how a simple game can create such a connection with other people you’ve never met in person. It’s what has led me to create Tweet ‘n Mingle. I highly recommend it!
What are the other things that interests you?
I’m constantly taking on new projects whether it’s learning how to play piano to refinishing a dining room table. My interests are many! I just love to learn!
Many other bloggers would draw inspiration from you. What message do you have for them?
The one message I always give – don’t give up! I promise you, you will have moments when you want to throw in the towel. You will have moments when you will doubt what you do and whether or not you will find success. You will have moments when you will come up against your biggest obstacles and fears. Fear will always be there. Doubt will always be there. Acknowledge what’s going on in the present for you and continue to take action anyway! Some of the most successful people are still confronted with these dis-empowering conversations. This difference is that they continue to take action in the face of it and never give up. Something is not working? Change it. Feeling tired? Take a break. But realizing your dream takes believing in your vision and knowing that the journey may not always be as you expected, but it’s a your journey nonetheless. Yours in Success!
Michele, thanks for such a delightful interview. I really liked your positive approach towards work and life. We wish you all the very best for your future endeavors.
