Even I personally feel that due to our hectic schedules and busy life, we forget what we actually love to do. 'Endless Bucket List' provides a great platform to realize the things we should do and want to do. And I can really sense that awesome feeling when we would strike that target once we achieve it. We contacted Bryan for a small interview with us to know what made him create his bucket list, the most adventurous task and much more. Catch it below:
Bryan, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Firstly, lets talk about 'The Endless Bucket List'. Tell us about the fascinating concept it uses.
To be honest, the concept is pretty simple. Our blog, Endless Bucket List, is our way of sharing our journey and inspiring others who are looking to create their own bucket list.
How did this idea occur to you? What inspired you to create your bucket list?
I toyed with the idea of creating a travel-related site for my soon-to-be wife and I, so we could capture our amazing trips; however, I realized that I'd only be updating the site once a year. A few months later, I ran a half marathon and while I didn't finish in a time that I wanted (under two hours), I kept saying to myself, "At least you crossed it off your bucket list." This idea became a 'seed' that later blossomed into 'Endless Bucket List', as a place that we could post our bucket list items to inspire other readers!
How does it feel when you strike off your tasks once you complete them?
It feels great! There is no better feeling then accomplishing something that you set out to complete in your lifetime.
Share the most adventurous task you have completed so far.
The most adventurous accomplishment, as of this posting, would easily have to be when I went heli skiing for a couple days in the middle of a mountain range in British Columbia, with about ten other individuals (and a mountain guide!). The only sound we heard once the helicopter left the area was the occasional avalanche crashing down on other nearby mountains. It was complete craziness!
Tell us top 3 reasons, why one should create his/her bucket list.
1) Life is way too short when the average life expectancy is 78 years.
2) If you keep putting something off that you want to do in life, you are sooner or later going to realize that you are either too old or sick to accomplish it.
3) Having your goals written down and kept somewhere in sight will help keep you focused on accomplishing them.
You guys are in your initial stage. What kind of response you have received so far?
We've only been up for about six months but the response from readers has been fantastic! In the couple first weeks, we were already being sent e-mails on how great it was that we were keeping an online bucket list and how it was inspiring them to accomplish things in their very own lives.
What do you think is the most important thing in starting up a new venture? What one should be the most careful about?
The most important thing in starting up a new venture is to really understand your target audience. I knew that that our audience would more than likely be an older crowd, as bucket lists are predominately made by individuals who are beginning to fear death. Knowing this, I made sure to incorporate an easy to read font, a larger font size, and big pictures to accommodate an older audience. The most important thing to be careful about is to not compare your venture to a similar venture that is doing a great job. You need to do something to stand out on your own and not imitate something that is already being done. While I did look at similar bucket list blogs to get some basic ideas, I didn't try to copy their format or style.
Share the best incident that you encountered on this journey from conceiving the idea till present.
The best incident I encountered so far has to be the e-mails I've received from others about Endless Bucket List and how it inspired them. Additionally, a fellow bucket list blogger and read has also even invited us to their award winning restaurant while we go on our honeymoon in May 2011!
What methods or tools are you most rely on, for promoting your blog 'Endless Bucket List'?
The methods that I've mostly focused on for promoting Endless Bucket List is by searching out other similar blogs of individuals (or couples!) and leaving comments and networking. To help promote it to different audiences, I've done guest posts on blogs ranging from travel (i.e., Matador Travel - www.matadortravel.com) to blogging (ProBlogger - www.problogger.net).
What is your vision for 'Endless Bucket List' as a whole? Where do you project it to see 2 years from now?
Our vision for Endless Bucket List is to capture our life events, adventurous vacations, unique experiences, great things we've learned, and so on. We hope that our bucket list can at least inspire one person to begin writing down their own list of things they want to accomplish before the 'kick the bucket'. As the 'Baby Boomer' generation continues to age, they will quicker realize that they have many bucket list items that they wanted to accomplish when they were younger. Based on this, I easily project that Endless Bucket List will be a significant source of inspiration for them over the next two years. Additionally, I also see us continuing to work with many other bucket list related blogs in the future and maybe even doing some annual reward contest based on different categories (e.g., most adventurous bucket list accomplishment, most romantic accomplishment, etc…). Maybe even an e-book on creating a bucket list as that seems to be a major trend in the blogosphere lately.
Since you've recently started up a new venture, one can look up to you for the best advice. What message do you have for them?
My best advice is that if you have an idea for a venture; don't wait to start it up! As Warren Miller, a famous ski movie director, once said, "If you don't do it this year, you will just be one year older when you do." If you keep putting that venture idea off, you'll look back when you are much older (and probably busier with life!) and wish you could go back in time to start the venture. Who cares if the venture doesn’t work out. You'll learn some lessons along the way and most importantly, you won't have any regrets when you are older.
Bryan, thanks for a wonderful interview. It was a great experience learning about 'Endless Bucket List'. We wish you all the very best!!
