Our computers are very important to us. It is not only the medium of work but also a mode of entertainment now. Admit it, most of our time of the day is spent on computers. Computers make our work easier. But when it comes to health, using computers in a wrong way can have hazardous effects on one's health. The one thing we need to keep in mind and take care of, is our posture, while working on the computer.

Wrong postures may be tolerable for a short time, but in the long run it may cause serious problems like body aches, improper functioning of body parts. The Chair: First of all, your chair has to be comfortable enough. It is something where you spend most of day on.
  • See that there are proper armrests for your fore arms.
  • Your lower back should be properly supported by the chair.
  • You must sit on chair which is wide to leave at least an inch on both the sides after you sit.
The Work surface: A good work surface is that which is designed with all apt alignments and measures. Keep whatever things you need the most in a systematic way to be able to reach them easily.
  • The height here matters. He height of the chair and also of the users.
  • The feet should be evenly kept on the floor. One can use a foot rest, if required.
  • The elbows, hand and wrist, all should be in level and parallel to the ground.
The Monitor:Monitor, the output device of the computer is another cause of quite a no. of problems. It is the screen we are staring at almost continuously.
  • Locate your monitor at a one arm's distance from yourself. Being too close or too far from the screen can both be stressful.

  • You should not require to bend your wrist in any direction in order to type. Try to keep them as flat as you can.
  • The position of your arm while typing should be comfortable. They should be naturally hanging from your shoulders.
The Mouse: The smallest hardware but also very important. This device makes the phrase “just a click away” possible.
  • The mouse should neither be too close nor too far from your body.
  • The grip on the mouse should not be very tight.
  • Bending of wrist should be avoided. Use a mouse pad if required.
Laptops: If you are a laptop user, make yourself comfortable in positioning it. Be careful while carrying it. Make sure you do not require to bend forward or bend your neck to look at the screen. If required, tilt the screen a little backwards. If possible, use a separate mouse.

General Tips:
  • Sit comfortably. Relax your muscles. Don't rest your elbows on hard surfaces.
  • Give yourself breaks from work in regular intervals.
  • Try quick exercises like rotation of neck, stretching and walking to keep the blood flowing.
