But if the rumors are to be believed, Facebook would soon be launching its own news reader service. Yay!
A source told The Wall Street Journal that Facebook is working on a flipboard-style newsreader service designed for mobile.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook refers to this service as 'Reader' and this service would allow the smartphone users to see content not only from other Facebook users but other publishers as well.
Facebook has been working on the 'Reader' for more than a year.
Earlier this year in March, when Facebook's co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced the revamped Facebook News Feed, he compared the new design to a newspaper saying,
"What we're trying to do is give everyone in the world the best personalized newspaper we can. We believe that the best personalized newspaper should have a broad diversity of content. It should have high-quality public content from world-renowned sources, and it should also have socially and locally relevant updates from family, friends, and the people around you. It should also enable you to drill into any topic that you want to discuss."According to the rumors Facebook is experimenting across various interfaces in order to create the best news reader. The social media giant is also planning to add a feature that highlights trending articles on Facebook. This clearly indicates that Facebook doesn't wants its users to leave Facebook for even a second and browse other websites.
It's also rumored that the 'Reader' would be developed for both iPhone and iPad.
We hope that Facebook launches the 'Reader' before 1st of July i.e. the day that Google's Google Reader retires.
