This collection is called 'Medusae Pendant Collection' designed by Roxy Russell who gained inspiration for these lamps from the ocean of course.
What's interesting is that not only does she admire the boundless beauty and mysteries of the ocean, but also the sad state of the eco-system because of all the plastic we keep dumping in there.
"I wanted to bring to the surface, and illuminate the growing problem of plastic polluting our oceans in a way that makes people inspired to help." she says in an interview.
But the irony here is that the very lamps she designs are made of plastic as well!
Russell first assures that the plastic in entirely recyclable and argues that versatility plastic materials have become an integral part of our lives and eliminating it completely is not possible. One can however, make a conscious effort to use only recyclable plastic and reuse it as much as possible. Russell contributes a percentage of profits from these lamps to The Ocean Conservancy.
Coming back to the lamps, as beautiful they are...their price is quite steep. They cost between $325 to $425.
