Andrea Brena's Knitted Army

Posted: 6/26/2012
Over-consumption is perhaps one of the biggest challenges faced by environmentalists today. Andrea Brena's Knitted Army aims to address this issue.

Brena has a great talent of beautifully arm weaving leftover pieces of textile into objects like chairs, carpets, cushions and pillows. Watching him weaving these objects is a treat and truly admirable.

He collects textile scraps, and utilizes them not only for weaving but also for stuffing objects like cushions or pillows.

So what made Brena create his own Knitted Army?

"I needed to see what life was like outside the bubble." he shares.

He quit bachelor program at Design Academy Eindhoven, because he felt that the students were only theoretically taught to adapt to ever-changing demand for new designs. But students can't experience these changes in a closed room.

So he decided to take a break from mainstream design education and explore his own creativity.

Have a look at some of his work. And don't forget to check out the videos at the end of the post.
