Very rarely do you come across a news related to Facebook that carries a noble intention or a feature that does not end up irritating its users (temporarily). This latest feature is by far one of the most 'social' steps taken by Mark Zuckerberg.

The New York Times reports that in the US alone nearly 7,000 people die each year while waiting for an organ transplant. Facebook's 'Sharing Your Organ Donor Status' can potentially save a lot of lives.

"More than 114,000 people in the United States, and millions more around the globe, are waiting for the heart, kidney or liver transplant that will save their lives. Many of those people – an average of 18 people per day – will die waiting, because there simply aren’t enough organ donors to meet the need. Medical experts believe that broader awareness about organ donation could go a long way toward solving this crisis." shares Facebook.

This feature entails users publicly declaring their noble act of organ donation, that will result in a positive form of peer pressure. It might become the 'in thing' encouraging more and more Facebook users to register themselves for organ donation. There are very few people who are signed-up with organ donation registry, and if these people publicly declare their commitment, it will help people to finally make a decision and donate an organ for those in need.

"Starting today, you can add that you’re an organ donor to your timeline, and share your story about when, where or why you decided to become a donor. If you’re not already registered with your state or national registry and want to be, you’ll find a link to the official donor registry there as well." shares Facebook's blog.

You can simply visit your Timeline, click on 'Life Event' and select 'Health & Wellness', where you can select 'Organ Donor' and save. You can also add a personal story to your Organ Donor status update. And of course, you can select who you want to show your Organ donor status, it can be public, friends, family or selected people.

So go ahead and boast your organ donation status, it will carry maximum likability.

Please note that this feature is currently available in US and UK only.
