What makes them a biggie? "Every project we've worked on since our humble beginnings gets the same uncompromising attention to care and detail. Perhaps that's the trick to making it big", describes their website.
Not only they are great artists and creates attractive designs, they have proven that online selling has contributed in breaking the barriers of traditional business methods. Thus, giving the business owner an opportunity to reach wide audience globally.
Let's talk to Briana to learn how she started, how has been the experience selling online and what's next on the cards. Catch her interview below:
Briana, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Hello! My name is Briana Feola and I am 50 % of Brainstorm Print & Design. I run this business with my boyfriend and partner Jason Snyder.
When and how did 'Brainstorm Print & Design' start? We would love to know about its inception.
We met in 2007 in college, through a printmaking class, mutual friends, and a few parties. Within the first month of our relationship we were already collaborating on work. It was a major magnetic force between us. I think we knew from the get go that this was something that would become who we were not only as individual artists, but as a couple. We have evolved mainly in location, but also in our attitudes towards each other. We’ve gotten to know each others rhythms having lived together right from the beginning. We still work in similar ways from early on, collaborating on everything, and helping each other out with every step. We’ve just gotten better at it!
What is your creative work process?
Everything that comes to fruition by Brainstorm has gone through both our fingers. We collaborate on just about everything. I work on textile pattern design more so than Jason does. But that is only a small piece of the pie.
How has been your experience selling online? What are the benefits that you see over selling offline?
It is difficult to imaging being an artist without the internet. Everything is so accessible now. Images, customers, connections with blogs and other artists…We owe a great deal of our success to the internet. However we do travel to about 15 craft shows a year to sell our artwork to people face to face. Nothing can replace honest reactions to your work in a real human setting. The benefit to selling online is absolutely being able to reach a wide audience.
What was the breakthrough point for 'Brainstorm Print & Design' ? Or is it yet to come?
The breakthrough point for Brainstorm is definitely yet to come! We have had some seriously exciting ventures in our history, but I like to think that the best hasn't happened yet. We have enjoyed working with Urban Outfitters to print our own work to sell in stores and have loved being hired by another client to print photographs of Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgewick, etc. Many clients in our past have been super exciting, but we just moved our home and studio to New Hampshire, so I have high hopes for 2012 and beyond.
You guys have worked on so many wonderful projects. Which is the most special one?
Our most special project is our relationship, of course! :)
What are your dreams/vision for 'Brainstorm Print & Design' as a whole?
We have big dreams. We want to continue making incredible artwork that we love and everyone enjoys. We want to start giving back to the community using art as a catalyst for change and positivity. We want to start a screen printing school to pass on the knowledge and the art form that allows us to enjoy life. We want to travel and of course to have the company be successful enough to pay off our student loans!
What would you like to advise those who aspire to step up in the world of online selling?
Web presence is everything. A huge percentage of our success can be attributed to just being a company on the internet. Jobs find their way to the inbox. Customers and blogs will find you. Granted, you must have a good product to start with, but having and maintaining a solid, well-designed website is crucial.
And a final word for our readers?
You CAN quit your day job. Be fearless. If you don't like your life, change it. Don't let society, money, or other people make your life decisions.
Briana, thank you so much for the interview. We really hope that your company makes a great mark in the world of online selling. Also, we wish both of you a great life ahead!
We are Brainstorm on Facebook and Twitter.
