Those who are regular with our blog will be able to recall our interview with Tanya Clarke, an inspiring lady who has created retro lamps and chandeliers out of recycled plumbing hardware, LED lights and hand sculpted glass drops. Her Liquid Light Installations are an interesting fusion of art, function and environmental consciousness.
Her purpose behind these beautifully innovative lamps is spreading awareness of global water conservation, for which she relentlessly works around the globe. Her father, Tony Clarke, is a leading political and environmental activist, and following her father's footsteps, she donates a portion of her proceeds to his organization, 'The Polaris Institute'.
On October 22nd, Tanya will be showcasing her work at Altered Space Gallery in Venice Beach, CA. It is a fine art/jewelry gallery and through this event a percentage of all Liquid Light purchases with go towards the education and action on global water issues.
"A noble artist taking action for a worthy cause. But what of the form itself? Tanya Clarke's 'Liquid Light' series proves an artist can successfully merge aesthetics with political statement. This is a political art, without the dogma. The message here is more effective as a gentle whisper, as opposed to a rallying cry."
The opening night for her showcase in Altered Space Gallery is on October 22, 2011, from 6PM to 9PM. So all those who are lucky enough to be able to attend this show, must make an effort to do so...it will be worth it.
