With every competition, thousands of hungry people are fed and the art helps in spreading awareness about hunger and how one can contribute to overcome this issue. In 2010, Canstruction raised over 2 million pounds of food, after donating it to food banks they managed to provide 1.5 million meals. Now, isn't that something?
"Architects, engineers, designers, contractors, students, and the local community come together to raise canned food to donate to local food banks each year." describes their website.
Canstruction also partnered with Disney to create the largest canned food structure, and this structure made it to the Guinness Book of World Record. The structure was made out of more than 115,000 food cans and provided more than 70,000 meals to the needy.
Founded by Cheri Mellili, Canstruction has been holding competitions in more than 170 countries, with participants from all walks of life. You can also contact them to hold a competition in your city. "We also encourage schools and civic organizations to host a Canstruction competition in conjunction with the design and construction professionals located in their city." they say.
