Murfie provides you with a platform where you can sell, buy and trade your music. The Cds that are collecting dust in a corner of your home can now give you cash. You can even buy from Murfie's collection that is varied and easily accessible. They have categorized the music and choosing the music is extremely easy.
Trading the Music with Murfie is very simple. Just request for a free kit with return postage to send your old CDs. They will list your CDs in a personal shop with set prices. Your CDs will be then available to other Murfie users for trade or buy/sell.
To give you a clearer picture of Murfie's concept, we contacted its founder Matt for a small interview with us. Catch his interview below:
Matt, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.

Founded Laminar Technologies in 2002 and invented the TurboTap line of beer dispensing products. Graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with degrees in computer science and electrical engineering. Recipient of thirteen US and international patents with many others pending.
Firstly, let’s talk about 'Murfie'. Tell us about the fascinating concept it uses.
Murfie is a friendly alternative to online music stores like iTunes or Amazon for purchasing and downloading music. Our approach is what makes us unique. Our selection of music is built by people who have shipped us their CD collections via free kits we provide, which are then listed on murfie.com as digital albums for sale or trade with other Murfie members. Any person who signs up on murfie.com is set up with an online personal shop to buy, sell, trade, and digitize their music.
Murfie aims to tip the scales back toward people in the music consumption model by creating a space in which users feel comfortable storing old music and acquiring new music. All transactions - buying, selling, trading - that take place on our site occur within a community of music lovers, with the user experience being supported by our team headquartered in Madison, WI.
At the present, we're testing out different branding descriptions to illuminate our concept, but so far people have really connected with our description as an online music marketplace that empowers users to request digital delivery of CDs.
How did this creative idea occur to you? What inspired you to start 'Murfie'?
Like so many folks out there, my music collection gradually morphed over the years into stacks and stacks of jewel cases taking over a dusty corner of my home. Although great music lay hidden in the clutter, the physical media sprawl of all those plastic discs became a burden to accommodate and warehouse. After moving cross country and abroad a few times, and consequently having to move my entire CD collection, I really started to wonder if there was a better way to store and manage my music (and refresh my collection with new music as my tastes changed). I was willing to bet that other people felt the same. One of the key objectives of Murfie is to unlock the value laying dormant in your CDs while eliminating physical clutter in your home.
If you were to list its advantages, what would be the first three ones?
People powered. As a Murfie user, you'll be buying music from other people within a community of music lovers, supported by a team of real people who are on the other side of every purchase, sale, or trade that's made.
Real ownership. Every digital album in the Murfie ecosystem is backed by a physical disc, which provides you with a solid guarantee of legal rights to sell, trade, and convert to new audio file formats. When you purchase music off murfie.com, you actually own the physical disc behind the music you've bought. This is a key difference between Murfie and other online music stores, like iTunes, where which you're paying for a license to listen to music but lack most of the rights you have as the owner of a CD or other physical media.
Tradability. From a user perspective, trading is one of the fun features on murfie.com. It's a great way for users to add additional albums to their collections at no cost, while engaging with other Murfie community members. We're also developing a number of features to empower users to tap into their social networks and promote their music collections.
You guys are in your initial stage, what kind of response 'Murfie' has received so far?
Now that we've honed a process by which Murfie members feel comfortable submitting their CD collections to post on murfie.com, we're shifting gears to begin more aggressively marketing the sale of music. Right now, we have tens of thousands of albums in inventory and on the way. Our average kit size is running over 100 discs - which is larger than the minimum we had planned on and a pleasant surprise! As we're hitting our stride with kit requests and incoming discs, we hope to collect between 500,000 and a million CDs over the next 12 months.
So far the response to our new site design that we've recently rolled out has been overwhelmingly positive. As a friend and ally to our members, we've worked hard to create open lines of communication so that interactions between our team and users remain conversational and productive. On principle, we aim to be real, friendly, responsive - it's not fun dealing with a faceless corporate entity - and we take what people tell us very seriously. If we can make Murfie better for you, we want to know - we'll respond to every comment or inquiry. We're on twitter and facebook, and we run a blog for those curious about our business and interests.
Who will Murfie appeal to?
Great question! ;) We tend to think anybody can find something to like about Murfie, but in particular, the serious music lover and audiophile who loves format control, or the technophile who loves being free of the plastic souvenirs of music will immediately be able to connect with our services and features.
Matt, thanks for enlightening us about Murfie. Its a cool concept and we wish you all the very best!
