Microsoft has recently partnered with Namco Bandai to launch World's Biggest Pac-Man, a game that can bring down your productivity to negative.

A game that consists of loads of mazes and stacks to choose from, and as you go your Pac-Man travels from one level to another. And what's more, that users can create their own mazes if they like.

The intention behind this game is to promote Microsoft's Internet Explorer 9, and "show off the capabilities of the fast internet explorer 9".

I would call this a great example of guerrilla marketing, where Microsoft has very subtly promoted its latest Internet Explorer 9 and allows users to log in to the game from their Facebook account. Designed by Soap Creative, this game plays only on those browsers that support HTML 5.

A great combination of social media, user-generated content, product launch and viral marketing. Games are quite effective when it comes to creating brand image and get a stronghold in the market. Now, who knew Zynga before Farmville came along, and now they have more than 48,000,000 fans on Facebook; another latest example is the animated movie Rio, that rolled out its own version of Angry Birds Rio and it managed to top the list iPhone and iPad games. So, you can get an idea of how crazy rolling out an addictive game can get, and widen your reachability way beyond traditional methods of marketing.

At the time of writing this post, more than 1,300 mazes have been created in the world's biggest Pac-Man game, and who knows how far these numbers will reach. All Microsoft had to do to make sure that players know about Internet Explorer 9 by placing a prominent banner at the bottom of the page that links to a page where you can download the browser.

So, for your next marketing campaign, you can always consider creating an interactive and fun game, you won't have to do much thereafter, the players will do it for you. :)
