While surfing the net and looking for interesting blogs, I stumbled on this very simple yet attractive blog called 'Template Faerie' that aims to create a unique and beautiful blog for you. It was founded in 2010 by Sarah Payne, a girl with a unique approach towards blogging and its different aspects. She is also equipped with template customization and web designing skills, and intends to give spiced up templates.
Her articles are fun to read that ranges from blogging tips, blog promotion, blogging platforms, designs, reviews and more.
Lets learn more about her and her blogging journey so far in the interview below:
Sarah, please introduce yourself to E-junkies.
Hello, I'm Sarah Payne and I'm obsessed with blogging and everything having to do with it!
Firstly, tell us about your blog 'Template Faerie'. What is it all about? And what does the name signify?
Template Faerie is a blog where I share my opinions on everything related to blogging, including social media, web design, writing, and blogging tools. I chose the tag line, "blogging advice without the fluff", because I've noticed that most blogs about blogging publish articles on the same topics and say just about the same thing, and I wanted to offer straightforward blogging advice and reviews that you can't find anywhere else. I try to look at blogging from a completely different perspective.
The name "Template Faerie" comes from the original idea that I would give away free Blogger templates. I haven't done much with that idea yet. I recently gave away six templates, and I hope I'll be able to do that more often.

How long have you been blogging? What made you start blogging?
I started with Blogger a few years ago, because I thought it looked fun, and I was interested in designing templates for blogs. I didn't have a public blog, but I had some ideas, and it wasn't until June of 2010 that I launched Template Faerie.
I read three very interesting things in the beginning of your 'About' page. Would you like to elaborate them?
In my About page, I wanted to make it clear that I try to make Template Faerie different from other blogs. The first thing I point out is that I don't write about how to make money with a blog. This is because most other blogging blogs cover this topic, and I would rather not bore my readers by saying the same thing as everyone else. Besides, too many people jump into blogging because it sounds so easy to make money, and the result is a huge number of blogs that have lousy content and are overcrowded with ads, and a bunch of misled and disappointed bloggers who realize that blogging is far more complicated than they are anticipated. I don't make any money off Template Faerie, and I have no intention to, because I think it would take the fun out of blogging.
The second thing I mention is that I don't blog about SEO. I differ from many other bloggers who construct their content in such a way that it will be recognized by search engines. I don't agonize over my page rank, keywords, or no-follow and do-follow links. Maybe that's why my blog is small, but like money, I think SEO takes the fun out of blogging. I don't, however, think SEO should be forgotten. It's just that I find it a boring topic, and I would rather write for humans than a search engine.
I also avoid those incredible techniques you find all over the internet, like, "how to get 10,000 email subscribers in a week". It may sound great at first, but free or not, it's usually too good to be true, and a waste of time.
Has blogging helped you in any way? If yes, then how?
Yes, blogging has definitely helped me improve my writing skills and to learn new design techniques. It has also encouraged me to reach out to other bloggers on social networks, where I can learn even more from their advice and criticism.
You are quite active on Social Media. How would you rate 'Social Media as a promotional tool' on the scale of 10?
I would give social media a rating of 8, because while it's great for gaining recognition, it can't be used alone. I definitely think that social media is something that can't be ignored by any sort of blogger, because just about everyone is on at least one social network, and by not getting involved, you're missing out on a huge traffic source. Social networks like Twitter are a great way to interact with like-minded people, and to learn and share new things.
What is the best thing you like about blogging? On the other hand, does it come with any disadvantages too?
Blogging is a fun way for me to put my interest in writing and web design to use, and to improve my skills. It's a constant learning experience. I'm always learning how to be a better blogger—from my mistakes and from what I learn from others.
The only disadvantage I can think of is the need to keep a blog updated. You may think that having a regularly updated blog is only important for keeping readers interested, but there's actually more to it than that. If you have nothing new to promote, your traffic will no doubt decrease. Not everyone can write daily, and I struggle to update Template Faerie more than once a week.
Would you like to share your future plans that you've set regarding your blog?
Other than what I've already said (giving away more templates and posting more frequently) the only plan I have for Template Faerie is to publish articles on other blogs for more promotion. So, I don't have any huge plans, like world domination.
If I can ever manage to get Template Faerie under control, I might create a few blogs on other subjects I find interesting.
What are the other things that interests you? Share your favourite books, websites, blogs, movies or anything else.
Besides blogging, I like writing, reading anything with a good plot (though I always seem to find more to dislike than like when it comes to books), and photoshopping. I also have a fascination for unusual animals, and I have four pet Painted Turtles (Eeny, Meeny, Miny, and Mo), a Box Turtle (Uno), a Broad-Headed Skink (Smaug), and a Black Ratsnake (Flitz).
What message do you have for our readers?
While I don't think blogging is for everyone, I think that most everyone has a reason to create a blog. Whether you want one to promote your business, share your knowledge on a certain subject, or use it as a diary, a blog is a great way to gain recognition, express your opinions, and get valuable feedback from your readers. Blogging can be a difficult task if you want to get noticed, but if you really enjoy it, you're determined, and you're patient, you're bound for success.
Sarah, thanks for sharing your insight with us. We wish you all the very best and hope to see your templates coming out soon. All the best!
